Is my IP banned from stanford stats page?

Post by muziqaz »

HI, first of, if this topic is in the wrong place, please forgive me, as I did not find any other subforum more suitable for this problem ;)

Anyways, I noticed, that for the past couple of weeks I cannot access stanford stats page and project pages. I get this:
403 Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /cgi-bin/fahproject.overusingIPswillbebanned on this server
I was wondering how the h**l am I overusing any of the stanford pages if I do not go there? I remember PG announcing that they will ban users IPs who are using stats page too much.
I was thinking how can I stop doing whatever I am not doing :)
I am using HFM.net, which in my opinion is not using stanford website for any info. It uses EOC stat page. I checked the settings once again, and I could not find anything that would suggest that this program is constantly pinging stanford website.
So please give me any suggestions and we can go from there :)

Thanks

P.S. IP is static
Tried with Chrome, and firefox

Are you running the newest version of HFM? I think this was fixed.

You didn't get banned. HFM got banned accessing the old location too often. ;) HFM accesses that information from a different source in the newer version. IIRC, it should start working again as soon as you upgrade.

Are you on a dynamic IP? You could try releasing your IP addy/internet connection

If you are actually banned then you'll have to contact Vjay Pande via PM to get unbanned. To my knowledge, Waiting isn't going to accomplish anything.

Your IP is still in violation. Check your use of violating monitoring software. Your machine is hitting our servers every 5 min or so. We will un-ban when the violating IPs have not broken the rules after a steady month. Sorry for such Draconian policies, but it takes a lot of time for us to do this, draining time from what we really should be doing, so we want to not be going back and forth. Also, these violations can bring down the whole stats system for all, so this is a serious issue.

I understand that, and i remember your statement about those changes. I upgraded HFM.NET software to the latest version, and that issue should be fixed now. I do apologize for any inconvenience. Please let me know if this 'hammering' continues from my IP ;)

Older versions of HFM were banging the stanford servers every 5 minutes. Considering the popularity of that monitoring program, I'm not surprised about the drag on the servers. It prompted PG to change the URL link to those stats.

The developer has since fixed this in the latest versions of HFM, but apparently not everyone has updated.

Ryan should build in a "Download client update" feature. Or at least put a link to the download page on the Help \ About HFM window. ;)

New version has autoupdate feature and 'check for updates' button in About menu. But older versions did not have those things. I know I am relying too much these days on automatic updates systems everywhere(my phone, OS, apps, f@h). So sometimes I miss couple of programs :(
