Project 60xx failures on Mac OSX 10.6.3

Post by DrSpalding »

Hi, I am bringing up a Mac (Intel Core 2 Duo 3.33GHz iMac) of my brother-in-law's up on FAH. I had him install 6.29 and it all seemed well. I have seen a whole bunch of UNSTABLE_MACHINE and EUE errors on various 60xx projects. Here are some example snippets from the logs that ended poorly:

I believe that these are all A3 core WU's (I checked and the A3 core is v2.21 dated 7 March 2010) and I haven't run any of them before, running either GPU, classic, or Linux SMP -bigadv clients. Are any of these legitimate or do I need to seek out any issues with the machine/install?

The only issue I can find is that he had FaH installed one a PPC Mac that he transferred all the files to this machine when he upgraded. I suspect that the queue.dat file is poorly versioned baseed on qd's output of it, but could/would that cause something like this? I will delete the queue.dat file and work directories today to see if that helps.

Thanks!

I guess you edited your log too much ... which version of the core do you have ?

I did excise it from the log but entered it into the text. It is 2.21 dated 7 March 2010. I.e. the latest as far as I can tell.

I have deleted queue.dat, machineindependent.dat and work/* and started back up. Hopefully, it was just a problem with turdlet files in bigendian mode from the PPC install that was ported to a new machine causing a problem.

It sounds like you are trying to run the PPC with version6 software. If that is the case, you will have to find a version5.xx Client in the "Old Clients" area and download either the Console version (v5.02 , I think) or the Preference Panel version (not sure about the last Client offered). Version6 just does not run on the PPC machines. I am still running v5.02FAHClient on my G4 MDD machine.

As to the Intel Unit, be forrwarned that some OSX folders are still having "problems" with the v2.21 a3Core while running OSX10.6.3. It is being worked on by PG. There are several threads dealing with the a3Core issue.
What is past is prologue!

It's running all intel stuff, v6.29r3 client and freshly downloaded core executables. There is something wrong with the machine though. After today, it wouldn't boot either from its HD or from a CD. It is a Mac DOA. When it gets back from the shop, I am going to visit with the machine personally and clear off all of the FAH stuff I can find and start fresh. I hope that OS X v10.6.3 actually works. I like getting the points from the A3 SMP work units. I did trot over to the Mac area and noted some folks having trouble with 10.6.3 and I confirmed with my brother in-law that his Mac was indeed running 10.6.3.

As far as I can tell, FAH killed his Mac. :)
