Passkeys

Post by theteofscuba »

I was considering to set up a passkey for the point bonuses, but I came to a problem. My PS3 does not appear to have the option to set a pass key. If I set a passkey for my SMP client only, will my other uniprocessor clients and PS3 still be accepted and credited without using the passkey?

Passkeys have no affect on uploads, downloads, etc. It's simply another identification string. And it's only active use at this time is for the SMP bonus program eligibility.

All of the clients EXCEPT the PS3 can use a passkey, but it's not required. As Zagen30 has said, it won't change how WUs are credited EXCEPT for projects that use the new bonus plan, and that currently applies only to specific projects.

The passkey has several independent functions and from all appearances, it will probably be phased in gradually across more projects, though we won't know until we see specific announcements. (In that regard, I could be wrong -- and specific announcements may never come.)

I wouldn't say "keeps" but it is related to your nickname. It allows you to separate points that you contributed from those contributed by someone else who happens to use the same nickname.
