It would be nice if the HFM developer would set the minimum value to that feature to 1 hour to avoid pounding the Stanford servers, on purpose, or by mistake.

I think that is reasonable, so I went to HFM.net's google groups and placed a feature request quoting this thread.

...and here I am. See, I'm not that hard to find.

Actually, the HFM developer (and all developers) should NEVER query any of our cgi-bin pages. All it takes is some bug on their side to wreak havoc. All developers should honor the robots.txt we have on our web site.

Sorry to be so hard on this, but this creates huge problems for our donors and major distractions for my team, who should be doing science, not dealing with problems caused by 3rd party apps.

I apologize for anyone who may have been banned and also for any trouble this has caused with the FAH team - this was not my intention. I will be removing the feature that accesses these cgi-bin based pages, no problem. I would have done it sooner had I known it was not proper etiquette to do so... or known that such was causing a problem.

Thanks P5-133XL, I haven't followed HFM development like I have Fahmon, so tracking that down would have taking more time than I had today.

I would like to say thank you to all who posted here so we could get this cleared up. It was making me question what was going on on my network.

I got home and checked the cabling and found the kids had strung a cable from my switch to their PC (around the corner from my systems so not too far) which means the system I thought was on the Residential dsl was not. Time for a little family pow-wow about what is not to be touched on Dad's side of the office.

Hey Harlam, No one is bleeding or hurt so it is not a major thing. I found out that i am not perfect (which is quite humbling let me tell you) so now everyone can party to that admission. It's what I get for not making sure that I actually turned a setting off. I am still using your monitoring tool as I find some of the features very nice.

This gives me an excuse to replace Centurylink's stupid Westell DSL Modem/Router thingy with something that has a little more control and reporting ability.

I am sure I will have access back to the stats soon. (Remember that it was me not checking it was off),

So is this ban permanent?

ToTOW pointed this HFM thing out to me, I must be one of those banned. I started using HFM about 2 or 3 weeks ago to estimate bonuses when the A3s started. The script setting has now been found (was 15 minutes) and has been turned off. I certainly was not trying to slam your servers....I limit my normal refreshes of stats to just several a day. My biggest "attack" is a couple hundred work units a day.

PM means Private message.

To do it use the user control panel (top left of the page) and click on the private messages tab. The trick is to find the right person that does the unbanning. At this point, I would suggest VijayPande.
