Major new contributor: raver

There seems to be someone named "raver" challenging Atlas for the highest PPD title:http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/mai ... name=raver

Anyone know who this person is? I am in no way implying this person is cheating, I'm just surprised that a seemingly new contributor (may have contributed under a different name) has that much running. I suppose I'm also fairly awed and wish I had that much spare cash.

Looks like it is a New Team with One Person. It is kinda odd to see something like this.

I am sure Dr Pande & the Admins here will look into this.

. . . but why should the length of time that a person has folded have anything to do with the number of clients that they would be able to bring to bear? With permission from their employer many of us could fold with a lot of machines rather quickly.

Whenever a new capability is released (in this case SMP3 and/or bigadv) people want more points than before. Those old-timers who used to contribute one point WUs with their old Pentiums could easily have several years worth of contributions eclipsed by a single machine in a single day. This person obviously has quite a number of machines, but from what I can see, they do not have the characteristics of a trojan.

I made a very shallow judgement about raver's time contributing. raver's stats page shows that he/she was contributing to some degree as far back as 2008. EOC only goes back to when raver's team broke the top 1200, so I can't say for certain what his/her performance was for certain, but only 4.8 million of raver's 8 million have been contributed in the past week. I admit it's very possible that raver has been contributing for a while and only recently got access to some very powerful hardware.

googling for SRVS brings some service provider for people with disabilities orginization on the first place and The Super-Resolution Vision System (SRVS) initiative on the second..
from recent stats:
Active clients (within 50 days) 157
Active clients (within 7 days) 87

i thing making many computers in one organisation or company folding under one user may explain this well.

I agree with bruce, this user seems fair according to his clients list ...

And for those who'd like to know, he's folding exclusively with Linux SMP client (mostly A3 and a few A2).

Wow, must be some serious hardware kicking on there, hope the powerbill doesn't arrive for a while Rave on Raver!
But there certainly is alot of untapped potential sitting around not folding, think the bigadv client has encouraged some of this to the fold.
Hopefully the new bonus schemes will continue this trend.

And it also brings up a small school district in Montana. FYI, Super-Resolution Vision System is a DARPA project.

Dividing Team SRVS/Raver's points per day by the current 87 clients is just over 5600 PPD per client. Many different quad core CPU models are capable of that kind of production and a lot more.

Raver's first record according to Kakao shows the first points on Jan. 26, registering over 322,282 and the second day with 622,302.

Even if nothing is amiss, it's certainly unusual. My curiosity has certainly been piqued.
