171.64.65.60 - Status Accept - Still Being Assigned

Post by howieh »

The server status indicates ACCEPT and it appears that it has had this status for almost 12 hours now according to its log. However, I have a machine that has been trying to get a unit from this server for the last 4 hours. Shouldn't the assignment server be aware that the server is not set to give out new units?

There are several threads already running about this server. If there are any answers, they would be in those other threads.

Yeah, I did read them. My problem has nothing to do with returning wus. All I'm asking for is that the server be removed from assignment. Totally different from anything in the other threads.

According to serverstat, a large percentage of assignments are, in fact, coming from this server.

Please post FAHlog.txt. What error messages are you getting?

Yes, if the AS is not able to contact the server or if the server says it is out of WUs, it should stop being assigned, but apparently that hasn't happened.

14:05:10 PST 2010 171.64.65.60 classic vspg10a vvoelz accept Accepting

The above line is from the server's status log and there are at least 10 hours of entries in the log that indicate that its status = accept. I believe that "accept" means that the server will accept completed wus but it is not assigning.

[21:50:27] Connecting to http://171.64.65.60:8080/
[21:50:28] - Couldn't send HTTP request to server
[21:50:28] + Could not connect to Work Server
[21:50:28] - Attempt #10 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry.

The above is taken from my log and indicates that I am being assigned to this server.

* NOTE: after 4.5 hours of trying, I did pickup a unit.

Yes, "accept" means that uploads are being accepted but no new assignments are being distributed. "full" means that it is dealing with both uploads and downloads.

"Accepting" means that another server was able to connect to it.

I cannot explain the 4.5 hours.

"Could not connect to Work Server" means that your machine was NOT able to connect to it. That could be because a firewall blocked the connection, because of some strange internet routing problem, or because of a number of other issues. For example, serverstat is only updated periodically. If a server does down briefly between updates to serverstat, a one-time connection might fail even though serverstat showed "Accepting" every time it tried. Not being able to connect can also happen if the server is too busy and the client gives up before the connection is actually completed.

I've run into this too in the last few hours. Got multiple machines on 10th or more attempts to get work. Unfortunately, no matter what settings I change I'm still getting assigned to 171.64.65.60.
