The P2665 WUs are valued at 1920 points.
Some will argue that that is still low.

also i noticed that the deadlines for these workunits are 6 days instead of the normal 4. So you KNOW its going to take more time than other SMP workunits, but you award LESS points for it???
You noticed the deadline changed to 6 days but you didn't notice the points changed to 1920.

Ahh, FahMon was reporting the same 1275 points, until I downloaded new projects.

This is a change in the right direction, but still seems pretty low for the length of time required to complete these workunits.

I'm using a Core 2 Quad @ 2.4 GHZ with 4 GB of RAM on windows vista 32 "I'm getting around 3.2 GB of RAM because of the 32 bit os".

for other projects I would get an average of 2100 PPD, I got this project 6 Hrs ago and FahMon shows that I will get only 1054.16 PPD.
I have been getting P2665 only for the past 10 days, is this random or is it because I finished them all within the preffered deadline "less than 2 days" ???

WU assignment is random, as always.

There also appear to be an enormous number of Runs/Clones/Gens for this project, so there are a lot to go around.

Project 2665: very low PPD

Post by legoman666 »

I have my laptop running a SMP client. It's a C2D T7200 (2.0ghz). It normally earns ~1000-1200PPD. However, on project 2665, I'm earning 349PPD. At this rate, it will take me ~6 days to complete the WU. While I will complete it before the deadline, why is this project so different in regards to time/point?

My desktop (Q6600 @ 3.1) is also running a 2665 right now and is earned ~33-50% less PPD than normal.

Simple, your T7200 has half as much L2 cache. The amount of L2 cache makes a big difference with certain WUs.

Windows SMP client? You can tweak the performance on the dual-core a bit. Look up the 4 FahCore_a1.exe processes in Task Manager. One of them uses much more memory than the others. Right-click, assign affinity, set it to CPU 0. Assign other FahCore_a1.exe processes to CPU 1.

I just got a 2665 unit, and I notice it is not listed in the points summary page.

Upon loading the WU, it mentions "250000 steps, 500.0 ps" (!)

So is it in fact worth 1920 points with a deadline of 6 days?

The ps probably means picosecond indicating 500 ps of simulation time but I could be wrong.

This is a bit of thread necromancy (all other posts about slow p2665 WU's pointed here) but I keep getting this WU over and over. on most 1920 point WU's it takes 3min20sec to 3min45sec to complete a frame, with this p2665 WU it takes > 9min minutes and uses less than 60% of my quad core.

If I can meet deadlines would it be OK to run this on 2 cores and run another VM on the other 2 cores? or is that bad for the science? It usually takes <6 hours to complete a normal WU on 4 cores.

Bad for science is not the same as less good. This is a case of less good. ;)

P.S. p2665's time is numbered, so you won't see them around for very much longer.

Got one of these on my notfred install this morning and it completely locked the VM - it just sat there idle for hours, it wouldn'y even allow me to issue a killall command, ended up having to delete the main folding vm file and restarting. perhaps the power outage the other day has caused some glitches in the system
