The server is too busy to accept your browser connection, and everybody who is trying to force a connection is just adding an even bigger excess to the load that the server cannot handle. It will not be able to clear the backlog unless you stop beating on it and allow your clients to take their natural turn.

That information is available on the server status page. It's not real-time, but the history is there for anyone to examine. Click on the IP address. There have been about 10 updates since this discussion became very active some 5 hours ago and it does show WUs are uploading and downloading.

Looks like it updates about every 30 minutes. Thats good.

Responding again hours ago. New WUs assigned and completed ones uploaded. It seems to have caught up after trying for 10 hours, for me. It has happened to me 3 times in 2 months (search FAHlog-Prev.txt) and today's was the longest delay.

I screw up far more SMP WUs than the overloaded servers ever do. The servers rarely, if ever, lose a completed WU. (My non-SMP F@h machine has run at 99.84% uploads for credit, lost 4 out of 2550.) Messing with my computers or just installing updates I wreck WUs. Like switching WiFi base station "on-the-fly" and trashed a 54 hour SMP at 98%, all by myself and more than once. Even PrefPane Disable and Start have caused me to lose WUs, just can't keep my fingers off the machine.

To those who worry about the electric bill for idle machines, you could just turn your machine off and send the money saved to Stanford instead of the electric company. I'm sure they could put it to good/better use. Instead of buying a GPU rig (!= Apple) for $1,500 from Newegg just to be a points whore, I could make a tax deductible gift to Stanford. Now, if I only had an extra $1,500. . .

Bruce and Kasson, thanks for replying :). But no more ETA on the new servers yet?

I agree with one poster that some people just seem to run too hotheaded in theire typing. Try to be constructive when critisizing, folks.

So I can see things are running smoothly again. How about it Kasson when you going to replace this server, it seems I griped a little to much about it and karma bit me in the ass, I lost my server last night and I could really use some parts.

Yea right, the reason I run my machines instead of just sending money to cancer charity's etc. is because when you donate at least 70% of that money is for operating cost "yachts, cars, women, whiskey etc." and there is very little left for the actual cause, this is why I fold... :D

What if your folding results only are used by large companies that invent and manufacture syntethic drugs to sell them at high prices and earn lots of money from the increasing cancer epidemic? And the end result would be supporting the same costs as you mentioned.

Ever thought about that? As you were down that road on the other aid alternative.

Yes I have, that is why I only have the machines folding that I do. I am saving the rest of the money for the extra machines that I could have had for these drugs that would have not been produced if I did not fold. At least they are having to do something for the money instead of me just handing it to them. At least there may be a drug I might need, win/loose situation instead of loose/loose...

If you send money to Stanford in a donationa, please be sure to follow the directions on the fah project home page. That way the money goes straight to Pande Group, and not to the Stanford general fund. I doubt very much that Pande Group has much in the way of overhead. Vijay doesn't do this for the cars, yachts, etc. ;)

@ theo343, the results from the project are published openly, publicly. It would be very difficult for the results to be "only ... used by large companies" Small companies, universities, and public health organizations could all use the information alike.

And no offense, but IMO the big break throughs coming in the cancer field will be in early detection and prevention, not treatment. Once you have full blown cancer, your chances aren't that good, even with new synthetic drugs of the future.

Of course, if you'd like to donate a PG Ferrari I'm sure I could find something to do with it... :ewink:

Hey, that's not a bad idea. If you could get back and forth to work faster, you could spend more time working on the project.

That was about a lame comment.

I don't know how much you spend on electricity each month but I spend quite a bit I have around 3500W in power supply's just to run my computers. Where I live it cost me around $125.00 a month to fold. I fold not to be a points whore but for a cure. My mother died at the age of 54 from stomach cancer my Grandfather died from Alzheimer's at 72 My other grandfather died of lung cancer at age 60 and I just got home today from the hospital after 8 hours of surgery on my wife to remove her left lung at the age of 54 non small cell lung cancer. I would like every second of the time and money I spend to do something constructive. You should not make statements like that you have no Idea why people fold or what it cost them.
