I might just be overly suspicious, but

Post by TonyH PCA »

When did 20,000 point WUs become available.

Code: Select all

http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=479215
I know that there are a few who generate over 200,000 points a day but not with only as few as a dozen WUs for the entire day. I also checked the stats for this user here on Stanford's site and found that there was no history of any specific WUs contributed.

I may be wrong with my suspicions and I apologize ahead of time if I am. And if I am wrong, I want to know where these massive work units are and what this side of a cluster of Crays can handle them.

My last few WUs have been worth a bit over 59,000 points each, it comes from running the -bigadv units. I only finish one WU every 2-3 days, but if you had a computer lab running these units, those stats are believable. I don't know how to dig into the stats to see records of individual units, so I can't comment on that part.

My stats, showing 59,000 point WUs:

From what I see that use has 20 active clients in the last 7 days. Been a member of more that one team too. See nothing here that looks suspicious.

These have been out there for quite some time. Matter of fact there is even a whole forum section devoted to them. They are a subset of SMP WU's that need machines with 8+ cores to run (C2Quads need not apply, i7's can complete them though). If you have such then you can run the SMP client using the -bigadv parameter and they will get assigned to you.

These -bigadv WU's also incorporate a new point bonus system that allows for bonus points if completed faster than normal. This is how a 20K WU can get 60K in points. So if you have a dual socket quad machines or greater then go for it.

There's no more history. However, that's possible to get raw stats but I'm unsure if they provide such detalization anymore.

Give up either distrust or counting.

The details on raw stats were at one point available to mods for checking bad WU's, but no longer. Perhaps they will come back when the switchover to new server code and more powerful servers is complete.

@TonyH PCA: I can assure you that WU point scores in the 60,000 range are legitimate. On page 14 of this thread a score of nearly 80K is reported.

However, if you see anything alarming in the stats, please do post about it.

Hmm, I see someone is disgruntled. I guess I went by them too fast, I assure the WUs are legit. I am running 8-i7s with big work units...

"Disgruntled", no. Amazed, awestruck and in sheer shock watching what I took seven years to accomplish done in a mere seven weeks. I know that I don't have much hardware to work with here (A couple of quad cores, a triple core, a dual and a pair of 8800 video cards with a few friends tossing in small units from time to time) but that quick drive-by certainly made it feel like even less. :P

 Hey, I'm running multiple bigadv WU's and road-runner still left claw prints up my back when I was run over :!: Now we know how Wylie Coyote feels
Got my first (ACME) 16 core system on order. Crank up WINE and my 6 GPUx2s--who knows...
