Did you follow the guide?

I mean, did you add the -smp flag?

Now, it seems to be working again.
I don't want to always have to be checking if this app is working or not.

Yes and No! In the log 2 posts back, I see where you started the client WITH the -smp flag, and another time WITHOUT the -smp. If you start the client WITH the flag and get an SMP work unit, and then stop and start the client again WITHOUT the -smp flag, it will cause problems, like the file IO error you saw.

Add the -smp switch in the client setup, then you don't have to worry about forgetting to use it. (add it to additional parameters) The install guide on the web site mentions this, and the Wiki does too. The client works better when you run it consistently. ;)

That message indicates that you've started the client both with and without the -smp flag. Apparently you downloaded a WU for the uniprocessor (type 78 is for a single processor) and now you're trying to specify -smp. You'll have to wait for the current WU to finish before smp kicks in.

Remove the -smp flag and use the -oneunit flag to finish the current uniprocessor WU. Then add the -smp flag.

Several times when I have turned off the computer, gives the IO and Client Died errors and starts the work unit all over again.
I will add the new flag and see if I can ever get this one finished.

Thanks.

I have both FahCore_78.exe and FahCore_82.exe in my program folder.
Should I remove FahCore_78.exe?

Then what made it go to type 78, when I had the -smp flag there at the begining of this installation?

You did NOT have -smp in there every time. Go back a few posts and look at the logs you posted. Most startups in the log look like this ...

Code: Select all

Launch directory: G:\Folding
Executable: G:\Folding\Folding@home-Win32-x86.exe
Arguments: -smp
BUT, some look like this...

Code: Select all

Launch directory: G:\Folding
Executable: G:\Folding\Folding@home-Win32-x86.exe

Note the missing: Arguments: -smp

I am not running -smp right now because I was told to finish up the work unit without it.

But, I did have the shortcut with the -smp flag in my startup folder even before this installation.
It was still in there from a previous installation that had been botched.
So, I would think that this flag is older than this installation.
So, I am confused why it ran at times and not at other times.

After this work unit, I intend to put back the -smp flag.
But, I am not sure how to make sure it runs the flag all the time next time.

1. For this unit, run the client with -oneunit as argument. This will ensure the client finishes the unit and tries to upload it, then exit.

2. When the client has exited, start the client again with -configonly. Keep all you normal settings, when asked to change advanced options answer 'Yes'. Then when asked for additional parameters, enter '-smp -verbosity 9'. That will ensure the flags are used everytime you start the client, regardless of shortcuts ( also, if you do have them in the shortcut they will be passed two times ( but afaik that won't change the clients behaviour badly )).

I have already started the next work unit with the -smp flag.
So, I will try that with the next unit.
