PPDs?

Have only been folding for about 3 1/2 months.
Keep seeing references to PPDs. What is that and how can you tell how many are produced?
Is this the same as the 24 hour points on the individual users listing?

Points Per Day, not the same as 24 hr total, unless you have only 1 client. eg my quad core does nearly 5000 ppd using virtual SMP, my graphics card averages 4500 ppd or 6000 ppd or what ever.. You can use a third party monitoring system like FahMon to give you these calculations. Useful for comparing output of diferent clock speed or combinations of hardware and more reliable than frame times for estimating speed and 'science done'.

Running 3 machines through a router,all with a single client program on each.
All are P4 HTs (2 at 3.0 GHz, 1 at 2.8GHz).
Would the points for all three be totaled to get the PPD?

You could say my entire systems PPD is... usually PPD per client is what people talk about, so if you are running classic uniprocessor client you may say each P4 does 120 PPD (or whatever they are doing) or my entire system puts out 360 PPD, or use to compare similar system eg 1 P4 with HT enabled does 120PPD but with HT off it does... this is just used as a baseline to measure from.

As you wish : PPD is used to measure performance of a single client (to compare it to others), but we also use this measure to compare between users (and in this case, all client of a single user are added to get a total PPD).

It's also true for teams (team's PPD is the sum of PPD of all users in the team).

Well yes but you may want to tweak your performance, such as the example for you I gave of is there a difference with hyper threading on or off. People also use it to judge energy efficiency etc or to chose new hardware configs. Or whether to run the SMP client in windows or linux, it goes on and on.

It's a point of view.

But more PPD means more WU computed, so more science produced

2 of my machines are identical,so have tried with HT on one and off on the other.
On seemed to do better, so is now running on all 3.
