Other applications?

Post by ejoliva »

I was wondering if there were other applications for FAH besides folding protiens that can in the search for cures to disease? What about modeling the effects of drugs? Other medical applications? Also, does FAH still need more computers to join network? How long does FAH see itself operating?

Regarding "applications" besides folding proteins, see the list of published papers http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Papers At first glance, it looks like #58 and #61 would meet your "requirements" of simulating something other than folding, but feel free to look through the entire list. You can also look at the list of proteins currently being studied although there's rarely enough information for a non-biochemist like me to figure out what they hope to learn until the final paper is published. See http://fah-web.stanford.edu/psummary.html and then click on "Description"

Yes, FAH still needs a lot more computers to join the network. When the scientists look at all the topics that they'd like to study, there is nothing that indicates when FAH might end operation. It will continue to adapt to more computers with increasing speed/power and still there's no end in sight.

There's a lot of information on the main website http://folding.stanford.edu/

Fah plans to do research until all diseases are cured, or at least treatable. It won't stop any time soon.
