Worth using more than one client?

Post by ashdaw84 »

I have an E8400 with 4GB ram and a 9600GT Nvidia. I am currently using the GPU systray client and have been wondering lately if I could run more than one client (like GPU and SMP)
The computer doesn't get used for gaming or anything like it and is mostly left on 24/7.
I have Server 2008 64bit and also a Win 7 install plus Ubuntu. So, would it be useful for ME to run the SMP AND the Gpu client?

Of course, many folders run both SMP and GPU clients on their machines.

Absolutely. The GPU clients use very little CPU resource, so SMP plus GPU folding makes good sense for a dedicated 24/7 folding machine. When you configure your clients they will need to have different machine IDs, but the default values are suitable, so there is no good reason to change the values. You will probably need to configure your GPU client with Priority = Slightly higher under the Advanced tab.

Also, the Linux SMP clients run faster, because they use a more advanced core than the Win clients. So try that if it is an option for you.
