phage iron spike imaged
Here's an article that explains how they imaged the iron spike that allows phages to penetrate bacteria. One of the interesting things they discovered is that during the pentration phase, the virus' proteins don't unfold. Has pictures too! This seems opposite to the news article on hemagglutinin and...

Biologic fashion Design
Here's an interesting article for those that want to go Green, it's biodegradable etc. The only question is how strong is it to wear-n-tear, and what happens when it gets wet - especially while wearing it or trying to wash and dry them in a machine. Maybe ultrasonic cleaning is how it should be done...

Perhaps, folding@home can simulate these molecules under various situations and maybe improve them.

Duplicating virus infection by its cousins.
Here's an article I came across that describes how a virus upon infecting a cell emits actins by two proteins to prevent the infection by another virus particle. They want to modify the proteins so that it will slow down the rate of infection - I think. But, I would think the better method would be ...

virus' infecting virus'
A few years ago I wondered if virus' could infect themselves. Well,...... here's an article that says just that!!!!! :D http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.j ... rus106.xml Another theory on how cancer gets started. HTLV-1 causes changes in gene expression resulting in adult t-cell leukemia. This ...

Re: Alzheimer's Update from UPenn School of Medicine
beta-amyloid per this article is in one, two, or three molecule form both soluable and non-soluable. They found out based on experiments on rats that its the two molecule (soluable) form that causes mem loss whereas the other forms don't seem to cause it. Here's the article. You'll have to put the l...

Re: Protein and HIV
The above web link says the article doesn't exist anymore.
Did it originally talk about the following protein (that they don't state) that is formed by the
TRIM5-CypA gene?

Re: Here's info on DNA and Knot theory being used.
If one reads the reference in the article for knotted proteins (oct 2006), http://www.sciencenews.org/articles/200 ... thtrek.asp This is what it said, A protein is typically a long chain of amino acids, intricately folded into a compact package. Interestingly, although abundant and complex in polym...

Re: Here's info on DNA and Knot theory being used.
You may want to take a look at the references the article refers to also. I realize alot of the extra stuff I said for chemical formulas and electronic bonds is just made-up, but I was just day dreaming as to other possibilities that people may not of thought of by applying the idea of knots from th...

Here's info on DNA and Knot theory being used.
About two years ago on the old forum I asked if during protein folding whether Knot Theory could be used to explain why proteins fold they way they do and if it could be used to unfold them also. Since then, someone has has written an article about DNA and the application of knot theory. See this ar...
