Re: Spread the word...

And though the original poster brought up some valid points concerning how F@H is promoted, some needed updates and such..... Thanks for reading. ... there just aren't loads of people hanging around with nothing to do other than update the website info You mean revising a small paragraph on a webpa...

Re: Spread the word...

If they remove it from being used, people are angry. If they don't remove it people are angry. This is exactly why I suggested FLEXIBILITY (that FAH can use the help of both advanced and casual donors). But if the FAH people think it is not an optimum or effective strategy to be flexible (and prefe...

Re: Spread the word...

Thanks for the links. They are helpful. And at the same time, they contradict what FAH advertises on its very homepage (as I guessed so yesterday). Sorry but I find your tone somehow patronizing. Maybe it's my understanding, but I see lots of "you this, you that" and lots of projections an...

I think perhaps we are not on the same page. Maybe my lengthy posts are tiresome to read. I will try to change fonts to capture your attention better. Re: Spread the word...

jonault I find all your technical arguments reasonable and convincing. The one idea that's interesting is that when a WU needs to be abandoned the partial results could be uploaded & handed off to someone else so they don't have to start over from scratch. I don't know how practical that is but ...

Re: Spread the word...

That's awesome news that there are volunteer programmers! I was not talking about just optimizing the local computations being run on each single computer (i.e., GROMACS and OpenMM). I was talking about new abilities such as those I suggested above (or any other ones) to increase the FLEXIBILITY of ...

Re: Spread the word...

I think many of the donors are quite good programmers themselves. Perhaps the F@H project can call for such donors to donate, this time, not only their CPUs but also their own brain and expertise and time to the project and recoding its algorithms. If the problem with the current lack of flexibility...

Re: Spread the word...

Thanks for your response. No, I really was not complaining. I was just being enthusiastic. But I agree it is becoming agitated, frustrated, and bordering on complaining! The screen saver idea of millions of donors passively generating tiny pieces was great but its time has gone and now many people h...

Re: Spread the word...

For your second post, well I understand wanting to make this as broader base as possible to encourage contributions, but think it more effective to let the researchers set the size of the information packets they require to move onto the next steps, this will be self limiting of itself if the pool ...

Re: Spread the word...

But aside from spreading the word, I think FAH should go easier on donors by making the computations more user-friendly. I have the following suggestions for this (recapping my previous suggestions): 1. More flexible algorithms that allow a processed work unit to be used even if it is not 100% finis...

Spread the word...

Perhaps the most crucial help to these disease-fighting supercomputers (F@H, Rosetta, GPUGRID, etc.) is to spread the word as much as possible . I mentioned them on ResearchGate . Possibly leave a comment there and share the link with others (or share any other link you feel fit). Perhaps Twitter, F...

Re: How to make both CPU and GPU work on the same work unit?

I don't have a link. Someone else might. Interesting options include next-unit-percentage 100 pause-on-start true You can see tons of options with FAHClient --help But most options are actually internal things you should NOT change. Many thanks for the nice info. For future reference, I am copying ...

Thanks. Can you give me a link to a page with a list of all the Expert options?

Re: How to make both CPU and GPU work on the same work unit?

I keep removing the GPU slot; but every time I close the core and re-open it (for example, after each computer restart), the GPU slot is back there and active! Is there a way to remove it permanently?

Disabled it, thanks. Hope this feature gets implemented in the future.
