v8.1.18 Performance Observations
Configuration: Kaby Lake Pentium (2C/4T @ 3.1GHz), 8GB DDR-4, 2 x RTX 2080, Linux Mint 21.3 1. The old 7.21 client runs at 106% of CPU. In other words, not enough CPU to run two GPU clients and background tasks. The new v8.1.18 client runs at 53% of available CPU. You can run full blast on a $58 Pen...

Linux Mint 19: Transitioning to V8 on 21
As long forewarned, Linux Mint 19 is ending support this month. The logical thing to do was apply updates, and go off support. However, version 19.3 is already out of sync with nVidia drivers, so applying updates makes the Foldingathome client unusable. Woe is me. I only killed two of 12 machines be...

Re: Linux / Windows shared data directories?
Think along the lines of a common container that could run on either OS, keeping one set of executables and unique IDs. Microsoft Windows has gotten pretty friendly with Linux and Linux containers. I leave it to others for details.

Re: repeating BAD_WORK_UNIT (114 = 0x72)
You have two GPU slots, normally slot 0 is CPU. If you only want to fold on your GPU and don't have two video cards remove one of them. Also slot 1 is still on beta work units. Yes, the slot numbers and config.xml are what I expect. CPU was present, then deleted. Second GPU was deleted then added w...

Twenty hours later the “temporary” outages still exists. How can folding@home help cure coronavirus-19 if nobody is getting any work?

Re: Rack-Mount 8-GPU Dedicated Folding Rig
Gordonbb, I read your PCIe m.2 rig build post several times and I think I’ve got it all down except the riser extension lengths. I looked at all the parts list you provided and found price and availability reasonable. My “best” motherboards with a PLX are PCIe 2.0, and they’re obsolescent. The curre...

Re: Rack-Mount 8-GPU Dedicated Folding Rig
No, junking all my RTX cards for $$$ Quadros is not in my plans. Plus the server cost approaching $5,000 is pricey.
What would a workable mining-type rig with PCIe risers look like? Motherboard support for lots of gpus, very large power supply, mining case, etc. Have folders done this?
