FAH on your brain?
Think your computer is fast? Check out your brain. The human brain is faster than any computer in the world, including the new RoadRunner supercomputer at Los Alamos National Laboratory that clocked in last month at a staggering 1.144 petaflop/s, just one part of the cerebral network can perform an...

Re: Notebook farms?
I see your point there. Now when you say headless, do you mean without monitor or without HDD?

Re: Folding@home on soundcards? [Not very likely]
I always though that the X-fi cards were programmable, but I can't imagine they would be very powerful. though it would be cool to have them pounding away on proteins 24/7. Sure, it wouldn't be fast but get 20,000 people using them at the same time and it could add up like rain drops. A very cool dr...

Re: Notebook farms?
So how much bandwidth can I expect about 10 of these to eat up? I'd get more, but TBH, I just can't afford more electricity than that on a fixed budget.

Notebook farms?
I was curious if anyone has considered running notebook farms. I was just thinking about how dirt cheap old used laptops are and since they're all in one, gathering a whole bunch and running them to fold would be fairly easy I imagine. If I did this, what would I need to do, run each one seperately ...

Re: Folding@home on soundcards? [Not very likely]
Thanks a bunch guys, I figured you all have probably looked into doing folding on whatever you can and ruled out the no-no's, I was just trying to think outside the box and help.
Off topic, wow, not only did 2 Pande group members respond, but the legendary Vijay Pande himself, I'm honored.

Folding@home on soundcards? [Not very likely]
I was just curious if anyone has considered that many people have very powerful sound cards such as the X-fi as well as on board sound chips that could be very useful for doing processing while no in use. I think it would be worth looking into writing a client to make use of Creative chips at least,...
