COVID Moonshot - should it be left without saving lives?
Listening to the end-of-year COVID Moonshot presentation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkQwDltGDfU every speaker is explaining what has been done by his/her group - for sure the contributions are fantastic - but in the end for my impression (given the current situation) it stays too much academic....

Re: Isn't it time to tune down on COVID-19 projects?
The fight is far from over. There are still dying about 12000 individuals a day, somewhere about 350000 a month and it will take minimum 1/2 year to get sufficient effects from vaccination. So calculate at least 1 million more people dying before vaccination gets any effect. What do we do if during ...

Re: Intel UHD Graphics?
I have it running on my notebook, using Debian testing. Buster did not have the relevant packages. Install instruction is: apt install intel-opencl-icd apt install --no-install-recommends ocl-icd-opencl-dev I had to set module parameter enable_guc=2 for i915 kernel module to have a stable running sy...

Re: Why my time as a donor was only a few hours
The following service script runs FAH as non-priviledged user fahclient Still needs fahclient to be member of group video (and/or group render) [Unit] Description=Folding@Home Client After=network.target [Service] Type=simple ExecStart=/usr/bin/FAHClient /etc/fahclient/config.xml --pid-file=/var/run...

Re: 5600 XT performance
No idea about that setup, it's bandwidth and latency. But that might be a limiting factor, many of the openCL kernels run only a few microseconds.

Re: Inherent problem of small Work Units running on big GPUs
OpenMM, the system underlying the FAH core22, is open source, so you're welcome to help. The team behind openMM and core22 is very much pushing things ahead, but is also very small. What they have provided is a really great system, but resources are limited. So if you want improvements, I would inv...

Re: Results of moonshot project
Thanks PantherX, that's information I was looking for, but of course not all of it . Let's hope for more! Let's hope we'll have something that can go into clinical testing soon.

Re: Inherent problem of small Work Units running on big GPUs
I don't know about your VEGA 64 GPUs, but at least my Radeon VIIs do consume less power while they run smaller WUs, which do not fully utilize them. As for the solutions you propose: - On getting only larger WUs to wide GPUs, that is worked on. Makes sense only as long as WUs for large systems are a...

Re: Results of moonshot project
Thanks for the link, I had been looking at that. However it does not provide any further information about what will be considered as a therapeutic and what are further plans to get there.

Results of moonshot project
I'm trying to find what is progress/results of moonshot project and the moonshot sprints on FAH, but couldn't find a lot regarding progress towards treatment. The moonshot sites show some chemicals designed and synthesized. But I can't find anywhere how this is going further towards a therapeutic, w...

Re: Gentoo, RX 5700 and ROCm not working
ROCm is not supporting all AMD GPUs, but aimed at the professional compute accelerators. It supports GCN Radeon VII, as far as I know it does not support RDNA - at least officially. Might be wrong in that, but worth to check ROCm supported hardware list.

Re: Upcoming AMD gpus and big navi
That's not totally true. Take the radeon vii: it was doing fine before nvidia got the cuda update, could compete with 1080Ti, Titan Xp and 2070 Super (I'm only referring to cards I have direct access to). On 13426, the rvii is doing 1.9/2 MPPD. The average chip consumption last night (~12hrs) was a...

What is simulated in 1343x projects?
From JohnChodera's announcement: "These simulations are X-ray structures collected from the COVID Moonshot" in the 1342x free energy projects, as far as I understand, is estimated, how well and strong different chemicals (ligands) fit into pockets of the main viral protease. As described i...

Re: Frequently downloading work units with expirations too s
That unfortunately might be an observation changing soon :( . I guess your problem is with moonshot WUs and the server for these has been down for a few hours. So it's likely that you will get one of these WUs again after finishing the current one. When I had problems with moonshot WUs I had set the...
