Re: AMD System Monitor

Thanks! Except for the ATI video card, my system doesn't have anything that AOD requires but I tried it anyway and got err msg "AMD Overdrive failed to start", so I'm assuming that AMD System Monitor has similar requirements, but I hadn't noticed any specs in that department. Curiously, ev...

AMD System Monitor

Recently installed a Sapphire HD5570, downloaded latest drivers, etc. from AMD. It works fine, is 4% into its first WU. Then I downloaded the AMD System Monitor: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pa ... nitor.aspx which installed fine as far as I can tell, but when I run it, all I get is a conten...

Re: Windows 7 - All Windows 7 comments go here.

roger on the 256 core PR notices, but they sounded a bit like future "GPMS" (Grand Plans & Mad Schemes) and I was curious if someone had actually tried it already. You'll be the 2nd to know 8 is for sure after I install it in a few days.

NVIDIA in financial engineering .....

web over to:

it's a core question if even more tools for smoke & mirrors financial adventures has any value-added for society, but we should at least be aware of what's out there and/or coming down the pike.

Re: Folding Cluster for the poor

Wow I was so dumb, I spent like half an hour looking for a board which supported Quad SLI even though I knew that F@H can't use SLI. I feel so dumb. Ferrari, relax, it could have been worse, it could have been an old fossil like me cruising down that dead-end, in which case it would have been half ...

Good question & welcome to the Forum! I'm also interested to see what the feedback on this will be. Happy Trails!

Re: [GPGPU] how to increase speed?

I am now achieving 5000+ PPD, but wasn't expecting to spend $100 to upgrade the PSU. Oh well. I agree, that's underwhelming; maybe the quad draws a lot more power than my old Pentium D; don't have any personal experience on that. FWIW, I'm getting circa 200 PPD more since I OC'd a little more using...

Re: [GPGPU] how to increase speed?

You're more than welcome, of course. Forgot to mention that I'm running the console version of the GPU client, FWIW, though it probably doesn't make much difference which one you run. Keep us up-to-date.

Re: [GPGPU] how to increase speed?

I guess you'd have to experiment to verify that you could run the GPU client (set prioity=low) and the SMP client (set priority=idle) and still make the SMP deadline. Others can likely give you specific reccommendations from actual experience, but I've seen several posts where a quad was running a G...

Re: [GPGPU] how to increase speed?

you might consider the ASUS EN9600GSO 9600 GSO 384MB 192-bit GDDR3 card. it's currently bending proteins @4600PPD in my 3-year old Gateway dual 2.8Ghz Pentium running XP SP3 with a 300 watt PSU. i got it from the egg, don't know who else is selling it currently, $100 - a $20 mail-in-rebate. the egg ...

Re: PS3 Uses 5x more Electricity than Fridge [no, it doesn't]

And even my Mac mini, the greenest Folding machine I know, draws 35W: one refrigerator door. :) Is that at full-load folding? My 3-yr old HP laptop w/AMD Athlon XP-M draws 65 watts folding, so it sounds like a mac mini with dual cpu's is folding twice as much with about half the watts. Is that semi...
