Re: Added a passkey and got my points removed
The bonus points come after you have completed and turned in 10 WU's. I was surprised at the level of bonus points. I've been trying to get a passkey for a week, but the emails never reached my Microsoft email, tried against a Gmail address today and it came through -- after applying the passkey my...

Re: Please don't let this go to waste
I'm not saying that the existing infrastructure should be dropped, but the best way to expand for what may or may not be a temporary increase in folding@home GPU and CPU donors is 100% through a cloud provider. Receiving a donation from a cloud provider does not change folding@home's independent 50...

Re: No getting Passkey - Create a new Team - Not availabe WU
So many passkey emails were sent out that Google and Yahoo (and perhaps other domains) classified FAH as a spammer and their bots intercepted our replies. I understand the passkey problem has been solved, though that's not a guarantee it has been resolved on all domains. How are the emails being se...

Re: No getting Passkey - Create a new Team - Not availabe WU
I was unable to get the pass key as well, seems emails from FAH systems never get out -- not sure why. Can't even get password reset emails from this forum. I assume the mail relay configuration for their environment must be borked.

Re: Please don't let this go to waste
Has anyone reached out to the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation? If any "whale" exists that could help increase funding rapidly, it would be the Gates foundation. My guess, the Gates foundation would likely be ecstatic to give a donation to folding@home, if the money is spent renting serv...

Re: Please don't let this go to waste
Thought about maybe writing a tutorial and a CloudFormation template to automate all of this based on a simple $ value you want to contribute in CPU or GPU resources, so others could easily do the same and have it optimally allocate the resources and spin them up. Will hold off for now until, FAH f...

Re: Please don't let this go to waste
In any case, what I really wanted to ask you was which cloud provider you used; I too was considering donating some extra power that way, but when I realized how overloaded the infrastructure was, I held off. Once the bottlenecks have been solved though I'd still like to contribute more, and I'd li...

Re: Please don't let this go to waste
It shoold be noted that "silence" is not the same as "inaction" How would outsiders or the individuals offering advice/suggestions have any clue whether silence means inaction or not? It's only natural when someone doesn't get a response from an organization they know little abo...

Re: Please don't let this go to waste
It's true that 90% of everything - including unsolicited advice from noobs - is crap. Often for reasons that they really would understand, if they had been here for as long as you have. But no system is perfect, and rejecting all input out of hand (because you "know" you're already doing ...

Re: Please don't let this go to waste
The trick is that you need fast storage to organize and serve out the workunits. AWS Glacier is by design very very slow and long-term. Definitely, which is why it wouldn't be as simple as "just" glacier, historical results, often untouched, which is I imagine 95% or more of that 500TB wo...

Re: Please don't let this go to waste
I'm one of (I'm sure many) who are actually paying hourly to provide optimized cloud CPU and GPU instances to this project, the fact that the servers I've dedicated to the project have been idle for much of the last 24 hours is making me seriously reconsider continuing to pay for the resources. Aar...

Re: Please don't let this go to waste
While I may disagree with coarseness of the OP's remarks, I do agree with the substance. (Being in tech) I can understand the difficulty associated with scaling up, especially if existing systems are on-premise, and as I've read working with huge amounts of data. I imagine that the expertise @ FAH m...

Re: WorkServer connection failed
Looks like we've given the team more resources than they can dish work out to  Both my Tesla T4's are running idle, maybe I should build a trigger to shut down these instances until work is available. [root@ip-172-31-2-53 ~]# grep "Empty work server assignment" /var/lib/fahclient/ log...
