Re: Haven´t seen any WU for our newly installed GPU
It seems that currently, there are no WUs available for your card. But it is mentioned that new WUs can be expected in the future for Polaris cards: https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?p=372033&hilit=480#p372033 Also, LAR systems state that they haven't recorded any WU for RX4xx to RX5xx at l...

Re: Using MPS to dramatically increase PPD on big GPUs (Linux guide)
Regarding vast.ai and using MPS. According to official support: Vast docker are non privileged containers, meaning some permissions/access are not available to root users. VMs should be tried instead for such tasks. It is recommended to use following template (Ubuntu VM): https://cloud.vast.ai?ref_i...

Re: Using MPS to dramatically increase PPD on big GPUs (Linux guide)
No, You are asking us to debug (for you, remotely) two items which are not included in the OP's post. This thread assumes you own the hardware, and it is at your house, you are not using docker or some other form of environment. So you're suggesting that if I open a new thread asking the same quest...

Re: Using MPS to dramatically increase PPD on big GPUs (Linux guide)
Sorry guys, even considered that you're most helpful here on the board, you're answers are not really useful in this case because that they don't give any actionable information. Useful answeres would be: - no reply at all, if there is no meaningful information to add. - "In my experience, dock...

Re: Using MPS to dramatically increase PPD on big GPUs (Linux guide)
Parallel computing shouldn't be considered "exotic" on a cloud computing marketplace that rents out GPU and compute resources for AI workloads, machine learning training, rendering, and other high-performance computing tasks

Re: Using MPS to dramatically increase PPD on big GPUs (Linux guide)
I tried using MPS on a 5090 I've rented on vast.ai. Unfortunately, I can't get Compute Mode running... nvidia-smi -c EXCLUSIVE_PROCESS Unable to set the compute mode for GPU 00000000:03:00.0: Insufficient Permissions Terminating early due to previous errors. I assume that the "Linux Desktop Con...

Re: Add a South American Server?
Yeah, never understood my mainly Highland servers cause problems.Nicolas_orleans wrote: ↑Fri Nov 07, 2025 7:54 am Yes, in Europe we do see those intermittent problems, notably with highlands servers. A VPN with exit point on the East coast of the US helps...
Will try a VPN as workaround, thanks

Re: What happens with dumped WUs?
Gaming and folding at the same time is a no go, at least for me. I care about both PPD and WU. That's why I'm asking those questions and wonder why it is done like it is done. And how I can contribute best. And: Lower PPD mean also fewer WU/day. To a lesser extend but anyway... When folding in Linux...

Re: What happens with dumped WUs?
It's like that: After work, if I have time, I use the PC for gaming and therefore no CPU folding possible. Due to lower energy costs, the night is reserved for MPS GPU folding as it has the highest power consumption. Parallel CPU folding drops PPD a lot / too much. During day time I fold some CPU WU...

Re: What happens with dumped WUs?
I understand what your're saying. I don't have issues regarding deadlines. Deadlines can be met in any case. HW is powerful enough. But maybe you can give some practical advice, because this is really what I don't understand properly. What is better for FAH: - starting calculating a WU for ~3hrs, th...

Re: What happens with dumped WUs?
I understand the reason behind requiring fully completed WUs before upload - e.g. to reduce network load. And I fully accept that partial uploads shouldn't receive any credit. However, discarding valid partial results is inefficient and wastful - both in terms of energy and computing time. Because t...

What happens with dumped WUs?
Hi all, As I have stopped folding and just recently started over... What happens when I intentionally "dump" a WU? As I understand, a dump report is uploaded and no points are credited. Sometimes I need my computer for other tasks and as long as the WU is small enough, I can wait till it's...

Re: What is best practice for overclocking / undervolting a 50xx in Linux?
Since the question is about how to undervolt + overclock, I'm going to answer the question rather than opine on the merits. This is gonna be long, I assume you're OK with reading. ... For sure I am. I am here to learn... Thank you so much for your detailed manual So, finally I had time to test sett...

Re: Using MPS to dramatically increase PPD on big GPUs (Linux guide)
Yes, unrelated, but I didn't know that the fah-client.service hinders manual folding. That caused a lot of confusion on my side, because I never understood, why it didn't fold most of the time and sometimes it did fold. I tried to start following commands from override.conf before manual folding: /u...

Re: Using MPS to dramatically increase PPD on big GPUs (Linux guide)
--> let me test a few things. I found out what might be the problem I found out the following: Folding manually a WU works NEVER, when fah-client.service is running / started Folding manually a WU works ALWAYS, when fah-client.service is stopped. I was able to fold both WUs (mps_test and mps_test1)...
