Worth using to fold?

Hi all Been away for some time, back again as I got given a machine... https://s1.postimg.org/2nix7tbz5r/s-l1600.jpg It's a Core 2 Duo E8400 3Ghz with a geforce 210 PCI-E GPU. It's on eBay currently as i have zero use for it but I'm wondering if it would be better suited to folding@home? Are the CPU...

Getting the most out of my cheap build? GPU options?

Hey all I'm currently running a little rig i got for free 24/7. It's an Athlon x2 4600+ @ 2.4Ghz (refuses to overclock which sucks..) Now I know it's pretty poor, the PPD/w ratio isn't the best (65w) but every little helps right? Three photos if you want to look at it: http://ridgeracer.co.uk/pro/fa...

Re: Core 2 Duo Q6600 Dedicated Folding Box Problems...

My GTX 650 was only 60W but still got loud. Most graphics cards do get pretty loud. I'm very sensitive to noise so unless it's silent I can't run it too much. All my machines run 100% silent.

Re: Core 2 Duo Q6600 Dedicated Folding Box Problems...

Hi Bruce, That is actually an extremely good point... I never thought of it like that. x4 cores working on a WU each would possibly lead to the same length of time it will take all 4 cores working together to complete a single WU... Hell 1 core per WU may even be slower!? I've noticed the PPD has go...

Re: Core 2 Duo Q6600 Dedicated Folding Box Problems...

I've gone with the latest client. The server is only a very basic Domain Controller which has about 10 users. It's a Pentium D 3Ghz with 8GB RAM. It's been folding for well over a year now. Seems to be running ok on the latest client. Current PPD on the Pentium D 3Ghz with both cores running on one ...

Re: Core 2 Duo Q6600 Dedicated Folding Box Problems...

Hi there

Ok thanks for letting me know, I have now set all cores to work on the one WU.

Image

How do i go about getting the other machine folding though? Perhaps use the SMP client instead of the old single clients??

Core 2 Duo Q6600 Dedicated Folding Box Problems...

Hello all I've been running a Q6600 based machine for CPU folding. I like to get as many work units as I can for the certificate so I tend to run 1 WU per core. I know this isn't the most ideal setup but it's how i like to run it and it usually runs very well. http://s3.postimg.org/twig6ydsj/image.p...

Stuck @ 99.99%

Hi all My GTX 650 seems to be stuck at 99.99% with an ETA of 22 seconds?? It's been like it for hours now. tried restarting the client and everything but no luck. When i restart the client it counts down from 99.96 and ETA of 48 seconds or so and always counts down to 22 seconds then stops? really d...

Asus GTX 660 PPD Results, Impressive?

Hello all I have a GTX 650 which i use in a dual core PC as a dedicated folding machine 24/7 it runs between 10/13k PPD which is not too bad for 65 watts. However, My main PC has an Asus GTX 660 and I've never actually tried folding on it before. I tried it today and... http://s29.postimg.org/r6y6ex...

Re: Nvidia GTX 650 Folding Issues

No problem now after leaving it alone for awhile it is now folding. It's putting out 11,500 PPD is this good? I've also upgraded the CPU very slightly to a Core 2 Duo 2.13Ghz and have now got both cores running on their own WU (doesn't work if i put 2 on 1 WU for some reason). Each CPU core is putti...

Nvidia GTX 650 Folding Issues

Hi all I've just built my new dedicated folding machine. It's a Pentium Dual Core / 1GB RAM / GTX 650. Its running Windows 7 and so far it's all gone smoothly... However.. Now I've installed the latest FaH client I'm having problems. The CPU only uses 50% no matter what its set to medium/full and/or...

Dedicated Folding@Home Build - Advice?

Hello all I've just upgraded my main PC's GPU to a GTX 660 so I have a spare GTX 650. I'm in the process of building a little server room and I thought why not put the 650 to use! So I've purchased an extremely cheap desktop (HP DX2300) with a Pentium Dual Core 1.8Ghz, 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD and of cour...

Re: Nvidia GTX 650 GPU dedicated to folding 24/7?

Hi Uddart Thanks yeah I am a keen contributor. Indeed this certainly isn't the fastest machine ever but it will help and every little helps right :D I need a server for web dev work and also for a print server. This will be on 24/7 so why not make it work. For any of you interested I will keep you u...

Re: Nvidia GTX 650 GPU dedicated to folding 24/7?

Oh really? That's rather interesting. Strange, but interesting. Yeah i guess data transfer rate could be an issue. I've just got a machine which I'm really hoping won't slow it down.. It's a puny little Pentium 4 2.8Ghz with Hyper Threading. Very old machine but it does have 3GB of RAM which isn't t...

Re: Nvidia GTX 650 GPU dedicated to folding 24/7?

That's good to hear as my little 650 is Kepler based. The speed of the CPU has almost nothing to do with its ability to drive a GPU. Both the speed and number of cores matter if you're going to be using the CPU to fold, too. Really? I did wonder as my i3 540 on my main PC with a GTX 650 tends to use...
