Re: Highwater Mark

I think your average person can run BOINC, soon F@H should be very easy to run. (it's easy now, but I mean VERY easy). I think the current level is nothing to sneeze at. I think if you got really clear in your mind why you fold and why others should care then you can have some success in convincing ...

Re: Is GPU2 really that much faster than CPU?

Hey Meatball, Yeah, I have an older computer with AGP and ran a x1950pro in it. That was worth it while it lasted. I'm considering adding a 3xxx AGP card to it. You may want to wait until the ATI GPU2 client is less CPU intensive so you can get full use out of the card. If they could make it much le...

Re: Highwater Mark

It's really up to contributors to get more people interested in F@H, but I would wait until it is more user friendly. Instead of looking down on the number, that's 840 teraflops that we didn't have before, and it's just a number, AND you can do something about it. You can get other people fired up a...

Re: Highwater Mark

Yeah GPU client is still in beta, so it's probably best to iron out the kinks before marketing/recruiting masses of more casual / "hey this is fun" users who would outright quit if there were too many bugs.

Re: Highwater Mark

Yeah I'm wondering the same thing... PS3s have declined by about 3000 machines. Maybe some folks are looking at PPD/watt and turning off their PS3s. Otherwise it is folks playing Metal Gear Solid 4, or kids moving back home from college (for the summer) and not have re-hooked up their PS3 (and/or no...

Re: Cash Donations?

Cool, yeah, as far as where the money would go... not sure if it is easy for them to answer, just wondering how their needs are changing and whether or not something has become financially critical for them. Kinda wondering how many petaflops they think their infrastructure can handle until they wou...

Cash Donations?

For folks that either don't have the will or the space for building another folding machine, is there a way for them to sponsor folding machines that the F@H team at Stanford could maintain? Would Vijay (if Stanford could swing the floor space & electricity bill) be interested in such a program?...

Re: Highwater Mark

how many days/weeks did PS3 initially grow until it started to level off? wondering when folks think it will start to level off? My guess is we see a short-term peak on Sunday and then another higher short-term peak the next two Sundays. I hope we see a decent surge over the weekend as people build ...

Re: 2 PFLOP Mark :)

brent, I wouldn't order just yet because the GPU code will be optimized over the next 3 months (probably the most dramatic changes in next 3 months) and that could change the cost/performance equation from one GPU to another... I'm anxious like you are and I am going to be patient and wait.

Re: Highwater Mark

now GPU -> 442 teraflops, 4021 GPUs. IF that's all nVidia GPUs, then they are averaging 150 gigaflops per GPU. (442-143)/(4021-2068) How can this happen? My guess is that some nVidia GPUs were operating less than 24 hours when F@H updated and the new update captured performance of some of the new GP...

early look at updated stats

Before GPU2, we had around 500 "active" GPUs. I'm glad to see that number at 3353 and growing... Let the twin powers of AMD and nVidia combine!

Re: Help Needed. Not "posting" Celeron + P965

OK, so I was about to RMA the motherboard and I did the test of outside the case. No dice... ...So I'm building another computer and I was gonna borrow the CPU from my original GPU cruncher to get the computer going while I waited for the CPU to arrive... So I decide, "What the heck, while this...
