Re: Noob hardware advice, please
Another idea might be an overwhelmed power supply. Are all the components in the box getting enough juice? Figure out the wattage draws on everything and see if your power supply is maxed out. According to the calculators, I am well within the power requirements of my system. Apparently my mobo did...

Re: Noob hardware advice, please
Last night I removed the card that has been giving me problems, moved card #2 to #1 slot, brought the box back up, everything looked fine. One, three and four were cruising along just fine. I checked again a while later and #4 decided to give me an EUE! Tried restarting, clearing the work and queue,...

Re: Noob hardware advice, please
...Apparently the test wasn't acknowledging my flags so, I guess I need help running the test on another of the GPUs. I read the "readme" file, still can't get it to run on a different GPU. Per the MemtestG80 README: To run MemtestG80 on a GPU other than the first, use the --gpu or -g fla...

Re: Noob hardware advice, please
What were the nature of your "bunch of errors"? Sorry about the not so scientific description. :) Every phase of every iteration shows huge amounts of errors. However, after looking closer I realized I was still testing GPU 0, the card that won't fold. Apparently the test wasn't acknowled...

Re: Noob hardware advice, please
For moderate temperatures, the lifespan may decrease from 10^6 years down to 10^5 years but you'll never see it. What temperature range is considered moderate, 80C ~ 90C? When you get the Pausing 24 message, though, something is wrong and the Pande Group recommends that you take that client off-lin...

Re: Noob hardware advice, please
The hotter you run your cards, the less the card's lifespan though The two inner cards are running 80C ~ 85C so I think there is room for some tweaking but I have a problem. Card #1 started giving me this: [19:18:26] Project: 5769 (Run 7, Clone 73, Gen 403) [19:18:26] - Read packet limit of 5400156...

Re: Noob hardware advice, please
That looks better, overclocked mine do 1-1.5 k ppd each more than that on those units so you could do even better than that if your cooling can handle it. k I'm not sure if my cooling can handle it or not. What are the max temps I should run at to prevent a meltdown? Also, if you could recommend a ...

Re: Noob hardware advice, please
Nice one slowride, just out of curiosity what projects are you currently running on the 260's - i would expect more PPD than that, my 2 x 8800gt and 1 gts 250 do 16-17k. It sounds to me like there may be a priority issue here. ATM - P5915 (R10, C904, G4) P5768 (R5, C36, G1233) P5912 (R4, C840, G17)...

Happy New Year to All!
Update : Well, I finally received my GTX260s. Got all four up and running last night. At the moment Fahmon is showing 23684 PPD for the GPUs, can't get it to see my Ubuntu SMP Client so I'm not sure of it's production.

Re: Noob hardware advice, please
I see where I went wrong now!
After reading the article about VMware optimization on FAH-Addict a half dozen times, I realized I needed to add Code : numvcpus = "4" at the END of the file, lol.
No reflection on the writer, I just need some sleep, been at this most of the day.

Re: Noob hardware advice, please
Boy has this been a frustrating day! I installed XP, vmware 3, Ubuntu 8.04 as guest OS. Installed SMP Client, tried to start it, won't initialize becauese it only sees one core! Go to VMWare settings, hardware, shows 1 Processor. Click on processor, change number of cores to 4, click OK, get "C...

Re: Noob hardware advice, please
Hello All, I hope everyone had a great Holiday! Update: Video cards still on backorder :( Starting to consider a different direction if they don't arrive soon. I reinstalled the folding client to 6.24, smp is working fine now. I wanted to try and run the GPU client in Ubuntu but I can't seem to get ...
