Connectivity

One of my machines is having difficulty sending results or getting new work. It can connect to the internet fine. However it cannot ping the assignment servers that other machines are using such as 130.49.240.81. I have tried traceroute and it gets stuck in 136.142.253.218 (te2-3.eh-core-2.gw.pitt.edu).

Please post a segment of FahLog.txt showing the connectivity problem.

I can successfully open http://assign2.stanford.edu/ and http://assign.stanford.edu:8080/ as well as http://130.49.240.81/ in by browser. Can you?

Some servers are intentionally configured to ignore pings and apparently this server is one of them. (A traceroute from here gets to the same server that your does, but I don't think that's telling us anything important. I also fail to get responses from two or three of the hops along the way.)

When I try to click on the assign links my browser tries to download a binary file. Connecting to the IP address shows up "OK". The log looks like this:

Code: Select all

I use Firefox and it too wants to download the HTML, it's probably a mime issue. The way I got around this was when the "Opening" dialog appears, I clicked the Radio button next to "Open with" and then clicked the "Browse..." button. Next I located and double-click the Firefox.exe file and clicked the remaining "OK" button. It then displays the HTML.

I've been having problems sending / receiving work for the last 24 hours also. After trying for a while it does manage to get something though. Just an issue of being idle for an hour in between WUs. http://assign.stanford.edu:8080/ doesn't work for me - it's asking me to download a file.

Code: Select all

[11:09:03] - Preparing to get new work unit...
[11:09:03] + Attempting to get work packet
[11:09:03] - Connecting to assignment server
[11:09:04] - Successful: assigned to (171.64.65.106).
[11:09:04] + News From Folding@Home: GPU folding beta
[11:09:05] Loaded queue successfully.
[11:09:05] + Could not connect to Work Server
[11:09:05] - Attempt #1 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry.
[11:09:22] + Attempting to get work packet
[11:09:22] - Connecting to assignment server
[11:09:23] - Successful: assigned to (171.64.65.106).
[11:09:23] + News From Folding@Home: GPU folding beta
[11:09:23] Loaded queue successfully.
[11:09:24] + Could not connect to Work Server
[11:09:24] - Attempt #2 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry.

Sigh, I just got through explaining how to get around the "it's asking me to download a file" issue. Look one post above yours. :)

Actually I got slightly different behaviour and I was not able to see any HTML. However if even I had the relevance is not clear to me. I can already see that the the machine has reasonable internet connetivity but cannot get new folding work. I managed to find the log when stuff started going wrong.

I just had the bright idea of wiping the work directory and starting again.
