Some people use VMWare to run Linux SMP client, which yields more PPD than the Windows SMP client ...
VMWare has its bad effects however : it uses more RAM, that won't be available to your everyday applications. Also, a single VM can only access two CPU cores ... so if you have a quad core, you have to run two VMs, using even more RAM.

In addition to what toTOW mentioned, is increased stability (in some ways). Biggest example of this is that when you close the VMware window, it will put the virtual machine in a "suspended" state, facilitating far fewer, if not no, EUE's upon resuming a WU. Additionally, the checkpoint feature ACTUALLY works, so say your system where to crash... or windows update where to restart your computer when you are folding, you are golden.
Elaborating on the increased PPD, is that you can receive WU's that use the A2 core as opposed to the A1 core windows is limited to. The A2 core is much more efficient. I have also noticed increased efficiency when running A1 core WU's as well.
