How can this be possible?
I have a laptop with Celeron M 530 @ 1.73GHz, 1GB RAM running Windows Vista.
And I have a PC with Athlon X2 4800+ @ 2.2GHz, 2GB RAM running Ubuntu Linux 8.10.

Celeron is folding at the same speed is Athlon X2 (1% each hour).

Is this normal?

What project are they both folding ?

What clients do you run ?

To compare performance between various hardware, clients and projects, we use the PPD value (Points per day). Each WU you fold is a worth a certain value (points, which you can get here : http://fah-web.stanford.edu/psummary.html ). For instance, if you fold one WU that is worth 100 points everyday, you'll get 100 PPD ... you'll also get 100 PPD if you fold a WU that is worth 200 points in two days ... and so on. If you don't want to do the maths yourself, you can use a third party utility like Fahmon or Fahspy that will display this information automatically.

My Ubuntu using Athlon X2 is folding this (copied from terminal):

And Windows Vista with Celeron is folding this:

Celeron's protein has 250,000 steps, and do 1% each 30 minutes.
Athlon X2's protein has 500,000 steps, and do 1% each 60 minutes.

I concluded then that Celeron and Athlon X2 are folding at the same speed...
Correct me if I'm wrong...!

Or maybe F@H servers detects that my processor is a Celeron and gives easier proteins to fold?

Also you could run a second client on the X2 - at the moment you will only be using half of the available processing power.

Sorry, but 1% == 1% it will take the X2 twice as long to complete the WU because it takes the X2 60 minutes as opposed to 30 minutes for the Celeron to complete 1%. The number of steps is simply a red herring.

That being said, It also matters the specific project. The point values of the project are a reflection of how much work a project entails. so a project that is worth 333 points is supposed to take 1/3 as long to complete as a 1000 point project on the benchmark machine (a 2.8GHz P4 w/o SSE2. So you have to take that into consideration too and your post above does not include that data ...

No, my X2 is already using both cores

Again, if it takes one of them 2x as long to complete 1% then they will not complete at the same time.
