Hi, I'm new to this and not quite sure if I'm doing it right.

I'm running an Athlon64 3200+ / 2GB RAM / 4870 HD (512MB) / Multiple Booting to XP (SP3) / Vista Ultimate x64 / Windows 7 x64 (BETA)

I'm guessing the GPU Client will provide better results than my CPU could offer so have opted for that.

Since I work within multiple OS's I plan to install the client on all partitions, but so far have only got as far as the W7 Beta, which seems to be working OK (I think), although trying to use Display results in Viewer.EXE crashing, not sure if this is a problem with the OS itself or the x64 architecture.

Well I just wanted to introduce myself and say 'Hi'. I'd welcome any advice or info.

Thanks again =]

Mark

Welcome to the forum.
The problem is in the Viewer.exe. Do not use it. It's buggy and it's a performance killer. To monitor your client use some program like FahMon.
About installing F@H on the all 3 operating systems, may be a bad idea, if you don't know what you are doing. GPU clients have short deadlines, around 3 days. If you install 1 GPU client per OS, you'll have to constantly change the OS so that you cannot miss the deadline. CPU projects have a lot longer deadline, but still it is good for the project to calculate it with a minimum latency. The best solution is to install 1 client on an independent partition (not necessarily), run it with -local flag and copy your UserID to all other operating systems. This will make the client runnable (calculating the same WU) from all the 3 operating systems you have.

Thank you very much for the advice and the warm welcome.
When I boot into any of the OS's for testing etc it's pretty much a day-long affair, but I think I'll take the route you suggested RE avoiding multiple instances of the GPU client.

I'm just pleased to be putting all those unused clock cycles to some use, but really hope it isn't an addiction as I've got far too many of them already and can't afford the hardware to go 'hardcore'!

Thanks again for the help!

Mark

Mark, I have two additions and both are expensive (FAS and PMS), Folding Addiction Syndrome and Powerstroke Mod Syndrome. That truck is just as bad as the computer upgrades. I have been folding for a while but just lately really got into it. In the last four months, I went from having about 8K in points and I just broke the 50K mark. Once again, welcome to the addiction.
