Project: 5759 (Run 4, Clone 257, Gen 22)

Is this a known bum WU?

I'm trying to not whine about points but this has taken my 8800 from 5700 to 1700 PPD? Is that expected?

I checked the database. At this point it is not known either way, good or bad.

Perhaps you could upload a copy of FAHlog.txt so someone could help with troubleshooting?

This may be a problem ...

If you are running more than one client on a computer, each does need its own unique machine ID, but you might also start each client with the -local flag to be safe. Otherwise they may stomp on one another and you don't get the credits if they do.

In the meantime, you did receive full credit for that WU.
Hi Tom (team 53803),
Your WU (P5759 R4 C257 G22) was added to the stats database on 2009-01-06 00:50:21 for 384 points of credit.
:e?:

there's only one GPU client on this machine. I don't understand your reply, I wasn't claiming I didn't get credit for it and that is the correct ID for this machine and client.

I'm wondering why my 8800 went from 5700PPD on the typical nvidia WUs to 1500PPD on this one.

I do have another machine running another 8800 and SMP under linux, but I'm not griping about it.

I saw this:
Machine ID: 2
Usually, that would indicate there is another client running on the computer since Machine ID: 1 is default and, usually, a client is not configured with a different machine ID unless it is a second client being configured. I say "usually" because there is nothing to stop one from changing the machine ID on a computer running only one client. There is just no need.

Realizing that may have been done, I did say "may be" a problem without the -local flag.

You said:
Is this a known bum WU?
I interpreted that to mean you didn't get credit. My apologies for the misinterpretation.

I believe the GPU clients come with machine ID set to 2 by default. I also recall that uncle fungus was saying something about the -local flag being useless in the new clients (v6), because the clients do not store any data in the registry anymore. (except for the user ID which is global for all fah clients anyway)

So, any bright ideas on why I lost 4,000PPD on this deal?

-local flag being useless in the new clients (v6)
fact

You may have a corrupted core, as in software core - not the GPU. :)

Go into the Folding folder and delete the core. When FAH restarts, it will automatically download a fresh core. If you have the same problems in a subsequent 5759 but not other work units, that would point to a problem work unit. There are anomalies occasionally that do not indicate machine or project deficiencies.

What about a situation where the computer had an older GUI client installed previously and it had not been uninstalled completely? That always was a reason for using the -local flag, just in case a different client path is hanging around in a registry. We still have team members upgrading clients on older computers, so there is always a possibility of that issue. Of course, if you know that is not the case, no problem, and such various other situations are the reason I said "may be a problem" initially.

I didn't know about Machine ID: 2 being default for a GPU client, but then I don't have a GPU, so that isn't surprising. I learned something today, thanks. :)

I now return the thread to its original purpose. I believe the OP wanted to know why the PPD is different on that series of WUs. I don't know, of course, because there are no GPUs here. I also don't know why PPD for the two different series Windows SMP WUs I am getting currently are quite different. I have been folding since December 2001 and that is just something I have come to expect and accept. It evens out in the end, so it has never been a concern for me.

Good point - old crud not being completely removed. I just know that in seven years of Folding Windows clients - everything under the sun, I've never used the -local client, not once. Maybe I've just been lucky.

deleting the core didn't help, so deleted the work folder and all the current files. re-downloaded and configged, cool, PPD instantly went from 1500 to 3500 with the same 5761 WU. I'll blame it on a passing cosmic ray.

Now, if I could get it back up to the 5700 it was doing before this latest round of WUs came out I'd be happy.
