Little folding machine + questions

Hi,

In near furute, I will probably order 8800GS to my PC so I can fold with card too :D

So I would like to ask (I tried to search in forums, but I dont understand it for 100% )

It is possible to run 1 time the fodling program on that 8800GS, or even more time?
I mean like in my CPU (dual core), I open it twice and I have almost 2x more PPD :D
(Getting 120-500PPD (x2) on E4400 @ 2GHz)
(The graphic card has 1 core?)

Then second question, how much PPD can Q6600 CPU do ?

Muchas Gracias :D

The GPU client will take the place of one of your CPU clients.
That way instead of running 2x CPU clients each doing 150-500 PpD.
You will be running 1x CPU client doing 150-500 PD and 1x GpU client doing 3,000-4,500 PpD depending on protiens and overclock.

Luck ............ :D

You can get the PPD of different CPU here : http://fahinfo.org/

The same exists for GPU : http://gpu.fahinfo.org/

Tigerbiten: And it is possible to run 2xGPU + 0xCPU? :D
I have read somewhere that on 8800GS were 4 clients, so confused a little bit :?

In case I would have 4core CPU it could be only 1xGPU+3xCPU (nothing else?) ?
For 2GPU clients at one time I need two physical cards? (Like SLI or CF) ?

toTOW: thanks for link ;)

You don't need more than one GPU client, unless you have multiple GPU in your machine.

Ok first off you might want to try switching to the smp client for your E4400 it will get you a lot more points than running two standard clients. Now for the 8800gs you would run 1 gpu2 client and it should get you between 3-4.5k ppd depending on the clock and what projects you get. As for a Q6600 if you use VMware to run two Linux 64 bit OS clients each running 1 SMP client depending on the clock and what projects you get it should be good for 2-5k ppd.

Hope that was the info you were looking for.

Melissa

On the C2Duo if your running Vista you could run both the GPU2 client and a SMP client if your running WinXP currently the GPU2 client seems to tie up a core for each GPU2 client that is running so that would only leave 1 core free for a cpu client so you would need to run a standard cpu client. On a Quad core machine running Vista you could run the GPU2 client and up to 2 smp clients on XP again the gpu client would tie up one core only leaving 3 free so you could run a smp client on 3 cores and get a little more production over a smp client running on two cores. And yes to run 2 GPU clients you need 2 physical cards but they can not be setup in SLI or CF they need to be operating independently currently SLI and CF is not supported.

Each nVidia client needs to run on its own card.
But you are able to run upto 4 nVidia GPU clients, if you have the cards, on one CPU core without any loss of points.
That is possible both under XP and Vista.

It works because the cards work on packets of data.
Once the client has sent a packet of data to a card, there is a loop built in which causes the client to wait and then check for data back from the card.
No data then it to keeps looping.
If it gets data back then it works out and sends the new packet of data to the card and then goes back to the loop.
While one client is looping, another client can get data back from a different card and send the new data packet out to it.
There are enough CPU cycles for upto 4 clients to work together, over 4 and the clients have to wait for CPU cycles so everything slows down.
Or thats my understanding of why it works ........ :egeek:

Luck ............ :D

MSI K9A2 Plat.
It easily runs 4 vid cards.
See Fastra -> http://fastra.ua.ac.be/en/index.html
I've also 4x 9800GX2's in mine.

Luck ........... :D

If you can't find 8800GS, check out the 9600 GSO. Very similar in price, power consumption and folding power to 8800GS. Search for both when you order. You'd probably want to pick whichever one gives you the best deal for (price and power consumption)/performance.
