Team number and Passkey

I have been reading on how to (create) your own team number and passkey and have not found anything on these subjects.

Is it hidden on purpose?

"See the folding@home webiste to find out how to start a team" = Terrible
Tell me (exactly) where to go to learn how to start a team would be much better.

"For additional security you can get and use a passkey. This prevents others from pretending to be you." = Terrible.
Tell me exactly where to go to get my passkey please.

thank-you.

This took me less than 30 seconds to find, even though I had never used the site search before:
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/createteam.pl

Perhaps you can find the information you seek, if you actually tried looking for it.

Welcome to the forum USAxGMF.

To setup a team, the link you need can be found here: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Stats

For passkeys, you need to go here: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/FAQ-passkey

I've moved this thread into a more appropriate forum.

You must have been too excited about the prospect of joining this worthy project and skipped right over the information when you downloaded the F@h client. ;)

For future reference, there is a link on the client download page for How do I start or join a Team?

And the Passkey has a dedicated FAQ page, as mentioned above. Also mentioned above, the Folding@home project page Site Search is a helpful tool.

Welcome to folding and the forum.

P.S. The WIKI linked on the toolbar at the top of this forum page also has helpful info.

How to create a team is not on the home page

It is not on the FAQ page

It is not on the Guide page

It is on one line in the second paragraph of the download page. Many people will not even consider going to a download page unless they understood the entire process.

You want people to create and join teams. You have thirty seconds and four mouse clicks to get most people

A link on the home page with a special icon on how to create a team would go far.

Please do not make the mistake of being "logically correct" but then not making the sale. In industry we have lots of different welcome mats since we are trying to grab lots of different people.

You have a great chance to reach way beyond the technological and scientific fields but it needs to be user accessible on many levels.

Also searching for "start a team' on the home page yielded zero matches. Not using the quotes had a match that was about the design team and not how to create one.

This is a noble cause but for most people it still qualifies as a diversion so you need to grab and keep them once they hit your site.

While I agree it should be made as easy as possible, you can't put links to every answer on the home page, or on every other page. All of the pages would be too large and overpowering for the beginner.

No offense, but the download page is probably the best place for "How do I start a team?" It is one line AND a blue link on the download page. And fah home page DOES direct everyone to the Download page as the place to start, so even the non techies should be able to follow that direction. And I think most people think about downloading the client before they think about joining a team, so yes, it is logically correct, but I could be mistaken.

And while the site search doesn't take you directly to the Download page, the Download page is one of the first answers listed in the search results. So, I have edited the FAH Download page so that a quoted search for "start a team" shows the one and only link to the Download page. One step in the right direction, and every little bit helps. Keep the ideas coming...
