SMP-64 to FreeBSD?

Hello,
I just installed and compiled my FreeBSD AMD64 desktop machine only to find out that SMP is really ONLY Linux compatible. ARGH!!! I just spent a few hours trying different emulators, etc. Any discussions, plans, talks, grunts, hand gestures (?) at getting a FreeBSD version?
I'm running my Windows x64 install for now, so let me know!

The finstall script will not help you. You'll get the FAH Linux SMP client only when FreeBSD will gain 64-bit Linux support. But this can be answered only by FreeBSD developers.

You might be able to run FreeBSD as host, and 2 qemu instances with a 64 bit linux distro . I haven't done it myself but is on my todo list.

I'll check out qemu, however, under the assumptions that an elf branding would work, the program "runs" but can not determine the operating system and returns the OS as ' '. Some bias towards Linux perhaps as having FreeBSD represented by air quotes, but I guess the pande group are focusing more on PS3s rather than multi-platform support.

I did try setting up 64-bit Ubuntu under qemu on FreeBSD 7, and SMP folding isn't possible -- qemu is not multithreaded and each instance only uses one of the cores on a multi-core CPU. There is an SMP setting in qemu, but it's only a simulated additional core inside the VM. Frame times were ridiculously huge in my test -- like trying to run the SMP client on a single-core CPU.
Add me to the list of people who would love to run the SMP client under FreeBSD. I once hoped that there would be some breakthrough with development of the 32-bit Linux folding client, but now I don't think it will ever happen. I suspect that 64-bit Linux emulation on FreeBSD will take years to complete.

i'll try to run linux 64bits in vmware when I have time to try amd64 FreeBSD 7.0. I was searching for this linux 64bits emulation in freebsd amd64 and found a message from 2004 saying that they should have it all, 32 and 64 bits in 64 bits freebsd. unfortunatelly I've never saw this. I'll ask the mailing list now and see what comes from it.
if any news, please share

As far as I know, VMWare stopped making FreeBSD software a few years ago. Xen doesn't run with FreeBSD as a host OS, either. I don't know of any other VM software to try.

I think I saw somewhere people running vmware on freebsd using linux binary. I think, not sure though. If I see anything, I'll post here. but you can try to see /usr/ports/emulators/ on any freebsd with ports installed. may give some leads

Dont know if virtualbox exists for BSD, but you could try it and see.
http://www.virtualbox.org
Source code is available, so you could hack it yourself, if you have any coding experience.

Looks like VirualBox does not support SMP in the guest OS yet. The FreeBSD port is still being worked on, too, by people far more experienced than I.

Is there any chance of getting native 64-bit SMP client/cores for FreeBSD? FreeBSD only emulates 32-bit Linux and can't run the SMP cores on a 64-bit FreeBSD.

BUMP! The single cores are killing me and my processors can easily do SMP!
Outside of emulation, what is needed to get a 64-bit build on FreeBSD? I am willing to help!
