Why don't the servers have IPv6 addresses?

I've had no IPv4 connection today.

But I've had a working IPv6 connection. Despite this, I haven't been able to return any of 18 completed work units.

It's great that the forum has an IPv6 address, but why don't the servers?

Most of the servers are located at larger research universities which have existing IPv4 address blocks. Some may have added IPv6 address blocks, but from my experience that has often been to handle increased usage by student devices, not the main servers.

In addition to that have been some early networking decisions made in the server and client code. I don't know how much of it has been updated to include use of IPv6 addresses.

The forum is hosted elsewhere. The IPv4 and IPv6 addresses you see externally are the proxy addresses provided by Cloudflare.
