Unable to reset passphrase – API NetworkError while recovering old account

Hello Folding@home team,

I’m trying to recover access to an older Folding@home account with the username “flakefrost.” The account is associated with my email address, but I no longer have the passphrase.

When I attempt to reset the passphrase using the official website (via “Forgot your passphrase?” on the login page), the request consistently fails with the following error:

API error: TypeError: NetworkError when attempting to fetch resource

I’ve already tried the usual troubleshooting steps:
• Multiple browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Edge)
• Private/incognito windows
• Different networks (including mobile hotspot)
• VPN and ad-blockers disabled

The error occurs every time, which makes it appear to be a backend/API issue rather than a local browser or network problem.

At this point, I’m unable to complete a self-service recovery and would appreciate help with resetting the passphrase or otherwise restoring access to the “flakefrost” account. If needed, I’m happy to verify ownership via email or provide any additional information.

Thank you for your time and for maintaining Folding@home.

Have you read the guide?
https://foldingathome.org/guides/v8-5-client-guide/

Note that your user name, team, passkey were never part of an account.
v7 did not have accounts.
You need to register (create) an account if you wish to use one with web control.
v8 accounts are optional.

You can recover your passkey if you know the name and email used to create it.

Although I was able to successfully obtain a passkey (which was emailed to me during my recovery attempt), I am unable to complete the account sign-up or recovery process via the Folding@home web interface. The web client consistently fails during the process, preventing me from creating or accessing a web account.

My goal is to create or regain access to a web account so that I can sign in and continue folding using my original Folding@home identity, “flakefrost.” At this time, the automated passphrase reset process is not functioning for me, and I have been unable to resolve this independently despite multiple attempts.

Because of this, I am reaching out to support to request assistance with manually issuing a passphrase reset email or otherwise restoring access to my account. I am happy to provide verification or any additional information needed to confirm ownership of the account.

After attempting to register my account approximately once every hour for a few hours, I was successful.

It appears that there were some problems indicated in my browser’s developer console.
