finishes work units, then errors and won't restart..with a twist

So... System up and running... GPU and CPU will do their work unit, but as soon as they finish I get the error
"16:08:35:I1:OUT12:< HTTP/1.1 503 HTTP_SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE
16:08:35:E :OUT12:HTTP_SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE: {"error":"No appropriate assignment"}"

etc...
but the twist... If i just quit F@H and restart it... it would load work units and then work just fine....until it finishes these.. and then again... error, quit F@H, restart it... it works...

any ideas?

There is no work for your hardware.
Restarting the client just resets the request delay timer and asks server for work immediately instead much less often before the restart. You don't need to restart, you just need to pause the client, and resume again, and it will do the same thing

No appropriate assignment - means no work available

there IS work for the unit... as when i restart it....even if it just polled the server 30 seconds ago... it downloads work and starts......well either way what you are saying is it seems to need manual intervention every time...and that doesn't seem right

It does not need manual intervention. If it did, you wouldn't be the only one complaining about this.
As I said the message tells you that there is no work for your hardware. Since these days people think that those who will help them have mind reading abilities, and just don't bother posting full system specs, the answer is simple and blunt: no work available for your hardware. If you decide to tell us what system specs are, then we can discuss deeper, on why you are getting this message of work not being available to your hardware specs

werds are hard... if I do not RESTART folding... it NEVER downloads another WU... it just shows that error... it has gone two days like that.... as soon as I restart F@H it works perfectly.... this is repeatable multiple times now,

You still don't get the concept of asking for help on internet :)
Help us to help you. Coming here and saying stuff don't work and keep telling us that stuff don't work, will not get you anywhere.
Devil is in the detail. What are your system specs and OS, which client version you are running, how is your client set up (have you created separate resource groups for each of your folding device, or you have them bunched up in one place)?
Again, mind reading is hard these days ;)

amd 9800x3d, RTX 5080, Win 11
client 8.4.9
ran the installer, allowing all defaults.. and ran it.. like I always have...

and just did it again.... finished GPU and CPU WU's no problem.... getting the error..
FOr two hours now.....
quit F@H manually... restarted it... and Poof... WU's downloaded immediately for both the GPU and CPU and running perfectly.....

Please try latest beta
https://foldingathome.org/beta/

If you still have the problem, try making separate resource groups to isolate CPU and GPU WUs.

Please read the guide if you haven't
https://foldingathome.org/guides/v8-4-client-guide/

fixed it...... I installed F@H with defaults... I ran the installer and that's it... have no idea about setting up various resorources, etc. etc..
well.. seems there was a mystery GPU listed... didn't know if that was onboard or what... but it never actually started and just kept trying to download...
Disabled that one and poof.. there are lots of WU's to download and the CPU and GPU work as they should and download new units as they should... hopefully this pic works and shows it
