Passkey Confusion

Post by LunchInSpace »

Hi, I started folding a few days ago and now am working to add a passkey to my account for the bonus points!

I am running on ubuntu linux, on my ML workstation when it's otherwise idle.
I also have a desktop and laptop that I occasionally run on.

In the main screen, from my laptop, I added the passkey I generated- but I'm not sure if this propagates to the other devices. It's been a few hours and I am seeing 0 points now where before I had 24 Million.

The workstation is the main thing mining, so I updated the config there to be like

Code: Select all

cat /etc/fah-client/config.xml

Code: Select all

<config>
	<account-token v="-MY ACCOUNT TOKEN IS HERE"/>
	<machine-name v="epyc"/>
	<passkey v="MY NEW PASSKEY IS HERE"/>
</config>

Then I restarted the client with systemctl.

Is this the right way to go about editing the key? I don't have the FAHClient on my path it seems. I installed from the .deb and don't know where that might have ended up, if anywhere so I've been directly editing the file.

Thanks!

edit:
Almost forgot, I installed from fah-client_8.4.9_amd64.deb

Hopefully you mean that you used - https://apps.foldingathome.org/getpasskey - to generate a passkey. If not, then that is the proper way to get a passkey for folding.

Ass for the zero points showing up, that is because the client will only show points that match your username and passkey. You can see all points credited to your username using the official stats page - https://stats.foldingathome.org/donor. That will also show points earned by others using the same username if yours is not unique, usernames do not get registered in any form.

You need to enter your passkey in the web app. config.xml is only used for first run values for anything exposed in web control.

If you’re using 8.4.9, you will not get account setting changes in the client until you restart the client.

passkey != password/passcode/passphrase != Account token

passkey is used within your account to tie your username as a unique identifier to you for stats and bonus point calculation. There might be many same usernames, but passkey tied to your username gives your points to your username

password/passcode/passphrase are used to log in to your account in fah.

Account token is your session identifier
