WU size config.xml Mac?

ChatGPT just told me, that on Mac you can change the WU size you're getting by going to library/application support/FAHClient, and then opening and editing the config.xml file.

But cannot find a FAHClient folder in Application Support.

Is this not possible anymore, and what about on Windows?

ChatGPT is only partially correct and pointing to an obsolete option that mostly is no longer set on the servers. As far as I recall, it did not make the transition from v7 to v8.

Any properly installed F@h client will have that folder, it is where the client.db configuration file for v8 install, config.xml for v7 installs resides. The folding cores are also stored under that folder, and the work files for the WUs also will be there while being processed until the finished WU is uploaded. The current log file is located there as well as a folder of previous log files. The full path is /Library/Application Support/FAHClient.

For Windows this post on posting from the logs - viewtopic.php?p=327412#p327412 - does point to the equivalent directory used by a standard install of the client.

Getting back to the option, it was originally created when a significant number of folders still were on modem lines. It is supposed to represent the approximate size of the upload file from a processed WU, "Normal" at one point was up to 20 MB. In recent years the setting has been mostly not set on the servers, so even if you set the option it may not have any effect. What it is not, is being how large a WU is in processing time, there is often no direct correlation between the upload size and the time taken.

Oh, and just as a note, this file folder is stored in the macOS systemwide Library so the client can be available to all users set up on the Mac. Older v7 installs also stored some settings in the hidden account specific Library, mostly as I recall for the v7 FAHViewer app as called from FAHControl. But don't have a system running v7 to check that on anymore.

My memory is that the client switched to the global Library for a later v6 release and used a System Preferences panel to start/stop.

Preferences for FAHControl and FAHViewer were always per-user.
