Not a problem - I'm just curious

First my BIG news: Rank 124,993 - I think this is the first time I've hit less than 125K.
OK - simmer down, everyone - no need for us all to get excited at the same time :)

I have two machines running on the same home network, both on this release of FAH:

1. a Win11Home machine with Ryzen 5 3400G - 3 of 8 CPUs + GPU allocated to FAH - ethernet to router
2. a Win10Home machine with i5-4210U - 3 of 4 CPUs allocated to FAH - wifi to router

On machine 2, on the Machines tab of the UI, I see 3 data lines:
  • machine 1 CPUs
  • machine 1 GPU
  • machine 2 CPUs
All data lines are green

On machine 1, I see 3 data lines:
  • machine 1 CPUs - green
  • machine 1 GPU - green
  • machine 2 - greyed out, shows "No resources ... Disconnected"
Image

Any ideas why this might be? And how do I connect machine 2 to machine 1's UI

Thanks!

You don’t see machine 2 because it is not connected to the api and/or node servers.
Check its log for errors.
Make sure all system clocks are correct, with a correct time zone.

Also possible that the client is not running.

But machine 2 has a task running, and on machine 2 I see the status lines in green for both machines - two lines for machine 1, and one line for machine 2. Sorry, I should have made a screencap for machine 2 - I'll post it later.

Make sure you are logged in on both machines.

You are concentrating on the wrong line of calxalot's comment.
Please turn your attention to the rest of his comments :)

Thanks, jeffmr4. When I click my avatar on each machine, I see a blue "Logout" button. I'm assuming that means I must be logged in.

Thanks, folks, for your comments and pointers.

There's a more fundamental problem here, and if anyone is at fault (though I don't believe anyone really is) it's me.

[[There have been times in the past couple of decades when family & colleagues have leaned on my for help with PC/Windows issues, and I'm generally able to help. I think this is because I have had a conceptual framework of computer h/w and s/w which was wide enough and deep enough to be able to come up with a list of potential underlying causes, ways to determine which is most likely, and some idea of where in the Windows interface to go for a fix. All of this is just to say that I'm not totally ignorant about computers - but only at a certain level.]]

With FAH I have a very shallow and narrow view of how things work. When an issue arises, this results in two problem types:

1. if I cannot see something in the web interface that looks like it is related to the issue, I'm stuck.
2. When the immensely helpful folks here identify the likely cause, for example: "You don’t see machine 2 because it is not connected to the api and/or node servers.", I have no clue how to check and fix that.
When I try reading the docs, or googling things like "fah connect machine to api", the results are of little or no help - I simply do not understand enough for me to do whatever it is that needs to be done.

I checked the log of machine 2 for errors, and sure enough there are some, like "Failed response: CONNECT", or "Failed response: EOF". But neither of these messages tells me what, if anything, I'm supposed to do.

As far as the client running goes, does the fact that both machines are actually processing work units not mean that the client is running? In any case, to verify if the client is running, I checked in Task Manager, and see that FAHClient.exe is in Running status on both machines.

In the end, I apologise for wasting people's time. As the thread subject says, it's not a real problem, and I was just hoping that there was a fix that was quick, and easy, and within my understanding. I should just be happy that I have two machines contributing something to the project - Rank is now 124,701 - so look out, muziqas, I'm creeping up the ladder :)

In each individual machine, go to the cog looking icon, and see if the chain link looking icon does not look broken. You can hover over it and tool tip will pop up saying if that particular machine is linked to the account or not. You want it to be linked. Keep in mind changes only can show up if you reload the page. Some browsers are very stupid in regards to caching page data.
Now, check the clocks on every machine as well, as non synced local clocks will prevent them from being visible in your fah acount

On both physical computers, when I click the settings/cog icon, I see a broken link icon opposite the machine name that has the "hover-"text: "Unlink machine from this account".

I take this to mean that each computer sees both machines as linked to the account. Is this the same as being linked to the API and the node servers? Or is another action required to do that?

Again, this is simply curiosity on my part, so if you don't see this as a productive use of your time I completely understand.

The most important thing to check first is that all clocks are correct.

Yes - sorry - both computers are set to UTC-05:00, and to Set time automatically

Here is the only documentation of the node system I know about. It is a bit complicated.

What browsers are you using in those machines? Do those browsers have any "security" enhancements, like strict modes activated, or some extensions? Ideally you should disable any extensions you have within foldingathome.org domain (ublock, pop up blocker, default browser blocker can be left enabled, since it is global). Any firewalls?
What is browser right click>Inspect>Console tab showing on the machines which are not seen to other machines?

Does anything change when you connect wi fi machine through the cable?
And lastly, I know this is pointless question, but: are you sure you have them both logged in to the same account :D
