How many people are really contributing to F@H?

I know there was a big spike in ~2020, but I'm curious what the current number of donors that are completing WUs at a rate that actually adds value.

Previously running an RX 5700XT for ~5yrs, I managed ~1.3mil PPD and that landed me somewhere around #4750 donor in all time rankings. Guessing at least #4000 among current donors. I recently picked up an RTX 4060 since it's good mix of low cost & high efficiency (~3.3mil PPD @ 95W). I noticed that 3.2mil PPD puts me around #850 of current top donors.

I always imagined that there were 10s of thousands of people running F@H. These stats make me think that 90% or more of the folding is being done by maybe 3000 donors.

You have some active users stats here : https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com ... ummary.php

It seems to be something around 6500 active users.

Cool. Are all those stats based off only users that are members of a team?

Looks like typical work stats. The top 10% doing 90% of the work. ~350 users doing most of it with another ~3500 helping with the remainder.

Assuming the stats for the user "Anonymous" is actually all of the donors with no username combined, +150k WUs each month at less than 20k points per WU. That must be 500-1000 users doing nearly all CPU WUs. Any ideas about that?

Is there actual question in your last sentence, or are you looking for people who get excited about numbers? :)
I cannot confirm or deny your extrapolation.

Anonymous users are broken down by team, so if you scroll enough you will see dad's for anonymous a number of times for different teams.

For some teams there are quite a few, for other teams there might not be any.

Also keep in mind that some people do not use a pass key so their statistics show up, but only with base points. For a person only worried about contributing to the science it really doesn't matter but it would skew statistics greatly since points awarded is usually several times base points at a minimum. I've noticed users that apparently have fairly high-end gear that only fold for base points.

Also keep in mind that according to the statistics at the extreme overclocking site anyone that has folded one work unit in a week is considered active. The actual number of people folding on a daily basis, even if it's only a single work unit, it's probably much lower.
