When you're on the v8 client, you have to use the web control. Go to
https://v8-4.foldingathome.org. If the v8 client is running then you should see a control interface there.

Ok, thanks.
Reinstalled V8 in new dir/data dir. Web control now shows user, machine CPU/GPU etc but fails to get work, all error out with:
05:11:33:I1:WU1:Requesting WU assignment for user XXXX team 0
05:11:33:I1:OUT11:> POST
https://assign3.foldingathome.org/api/assign HTTP/1.1
05:11:33:I1:OUT11:< HTTP/1.1 503 HTTP_SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE
05:11:33:E :OUT11:HTTP_SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE: {"error":"No appropriate assignment"}
05:11:33:I1:WU1:Retry #9 in 8 mins 32 secs
Web is available so what is the "Service Unavailable" error msg?
"Stats" tab shows old work, username etc but "log in" does not accept e-mail or username. Request reset says no account??
This does not explain why v7.6.21 no longer works.

The "no appropriate assignment" error means that the server can't find any projects which are a good fit for your hardware. It might mean that you are using a GPU which is too old or which is slow enough that there are no current work units available for it.
Not all projects will work on all hardware. Some projects might have so many atoms that they can only fold on high-end GPUs, and others might have so few atoms that really powerful GPUs won't be able to process them efficiently. If you're getting that error, all you can do is wait. There might just be a shortage of work units for your particular hardware configuration. A lot of people get confused about that error because it makes it seem like there's a problem with the server even though the server is working fine.
Make sure you have more than two CPU threads enabled if you want to fold on the CPU btw.

H/W is i9 14900, GPU is Nvidia 4070 - not exactly "low end".... I have been running this machine for over a year with no issues with FAH...
Will see if it can find anything tomorrow.

Okay that is kind of strange. Recently there were some work shortages for high-end GPUs but I was told they were over. Can you take a screenshot of your settings page in the v8 client where it shows the configuration?

I note the comment re "more than 2 CPU threads" - I've been running v7 for a long time with 2 due to competition with BOINC....
I'll try that in the morning.
Any ideas about the logon issue??

Recently (I think in the past few days), CPU computations with just two threads was temporarily disabled.
I don't know about the login issue because I don't use a remote account with a login. I just use a regular passkey.

You need to create an account via web control.
The passkey is not a password.
Please read the guide on the v8 download page.

Accounts - Then this appears to be new. I've been using V7.x for a long time with no issues, no issues logging on to the forums either.

Unless you're managing a client remotely, you don't need an account. You do need a passkey if you want bonus points though.

Account is part of the fun in V8, since you can access your folding stuff from anywhere in the world.
Inability to do that easily or at all in v7 was one of the biggest shortcomings of that version and ability to monitor remotely was one of the most popular requests with new client.
Creating an account takes second, and remote monitoring is a fantastic feature.
Open your phone punch in the URL, log in, and you can see how your folding machines are doing, and you can control everything from your phone. Epic

Ok, the 3 CPU requirement seems to be it.
Now running. 2 tasks but no clear way to see which is using the GPU (or being used at all - I had to suspend/resume while monitoring GPU usage to determine that).
The upgrade process seems to be lacking a simple path... no links between v7 and v8 requirements other than "read the manual"... I've been updating apps for 30+yrs and not had a hassle like this before.

OK, found the "GPU" flag in WU details....
This interface is not as simple and easy to read as the V7 one... v7 shows the info in one window that can be simply hidden, not multiple "click here" pages.
