Where do we discuss the 8.4 Open Beta?
Looks like it debuted today, and it's not gotten its own forum subsection yet.

If you haven't updated yet, the new user interface is pretty neat.

I will check into that. I was informed recently that the developer was pushing towards a public Beta, but hadn't received any notice that it was live. It is possible the most recent Alpha was posted on the wrong page, the Alpha page still lists 8.4.8.

If the Public Beta is supposed to start, I will see about creating a forum for that.

Great! Until then, here's some feedback:

I really like the mouseover '?' symbols that give simple definitions for what each figure means.
We should have even more of those. RCG, PPD, TPF, ETA - no acronym should go undefined.

The last time we could see the file size we've downloaded was the desktop version, and I'd still like that feature back.

The most effective place for enhancement requests is github. The dev doesn’t generally read this forum.

There is also a release discussion for testing feedback on github.

The FAH-Client carried in the AUR fahcontrol package for Arch Linux has been displaying v8.4.3 for many months now.
AUR also reports it is out of date.

Yup. It is maintained by third parties.
I think you can email them, or leave a comment on

My main complaint about v8.4.x is that unlike v7, when you have completed a work unit, in the logs it doesn't tell you how many points it was granted

I frequently find that if I set in the web page to finish a work unit then close the web page, then fah-client then occupies a whole thread, bringing computation almost to a halt. This requires a restart to continue computation correctly. Surely some other users have experienced this problem?

Log estimated credit when WU is uploaded successfully

I've never seen this.
What client version?
What OS and version?

Every version from 8.x.x to 8.4.10

>What OS and version?

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and Arch Linux, on two different computers.

As an aside, I have found the page https://apps.foldingathome.org/wu which answers one of my complaints, but this page isn't signposted from anywhere in the site that I can find.

On a debian stable 8.4.9 client for CPU WUs, I've unfortunately managed to have the folding service lose track of a couple units in progress. It looks as though they still exist in the ~folding/work/[unit ID] area, but may have been subtly defeated somehow, by a system irregular shutdown or the like. It's since started up a fresh unit and the lost ones don't seem any longer to appear in the "Work Units" part of the http based dashboard. Does the 8.4.9 client / dashboard have capability of restoring sanity to those unfinished units, in such cases? How would I troubleshoot or resolve?
