I Have a questions

Post by Lasky »

hello folks

I have a modest question, I use the 2080 Super Nividia and here only the 3D Mark is used, is there a possibility to get more out of it? Because according to windows the copy area as well as the video encode and video decode are not used.

Furthermore, I have 126 gb of RAM available, which I would also like to use. Do you have any plans in this direction ? because next year I wanted to organize the 5090 to support you even more efficiently...

Best regards

F@h uses what it can as for GPU capabilities, and what it needs with regards to RAM.
To give a couple examples:
- A modern GPU offers logic / tools for gaming (like raytracing) that can't be used by for the calculations F@h is doing. On Nvidia F@h only can use the CUDA cores.
- A GPU may offer more CUDA cores than can be used for a particular job / project, which will cause the GPU to technically be underutilized. The F@h project tries to get the largest jobs on the most capable GPUs, but it's difficult to keep high end GPUs fully utilized all the time. My 4090 isn't either. Specifying a cause preference sometimes helps, but it takes a bit of time to figure out which cause has the projects most suited for a high-end GPU. (Note: if you specify a cause preference, but there are no active projects for that cause, you'll get a job for another project)
- Usually 16 GB is all (or more than) F@h really needs. If you do CPU folding as well, that will differ, but then you'll also have to check if CPU fulding doesn't negatively impact GPU folding (that depends on OS and number of cores used for CPU folding)
