Folding Forum

I've done folding before on a Linux Mint machine, but have had to revert back to Windows, and don't want to leave the machine on 24/7 like I used to, so haven't folded in a while.
I'm now considering running it permanently on a Raspberry Pi 5 seeing that there's now an official client for ARM machines. Yes, I am aware of how low the PPD will be (not that I care about that), but considering the performance uplift from the Pi 4 to the 5, I wondered if there are any 5 users who can give their thoughts on it as a folding device?

Raspberry Pi 5 is still on the 28nm node I think - they stay on the "value nodes" to get good performance/$, but the result is that the compute/kWh is not great. It's low power when idling, but when number-crunching, it gets relatively poor performance for its power consumption.

Take this with a grain of salt, it's possible I'm missing something, but this was my takeaway when I considered it for my Pi 4.

Thanks for the reply! Since me asking, and me not having made a purchasing decision yet, looks like i'm gunning for the new M4 Mac Mini instead.
