[SOLVED] 7800 XT Disabled in client

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though AMD has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

[SOLVED] 7800 XT Disabled in client

Post by TheOGButters »

I have been folding for years on this system but recently upgraded to a 7800 XT and it's disabled in the client. I've restarted my pc, reinstalled FOH and even deleted GPU.txt and nothing fixes it. Any help is appreciated!

Could you please post the first part of the log, which gives system and software info?

I see it says no cuda or OpenCL support detected but I have no clue what that means

Are you using the video drivers from MS Windows Update or ones downloaded direct from AMD? Or did Windows Update do an update on them after you installed from an AMD download? MS just supplies the video driver component, not the OpenCL support needed for folding.

So if this is the case try reinstalling from a driver download from AMD. You may also need to reboot after installing.

I can't believe I didn't think to check for an update from AMD but that was the problem!

Windows is known to hijack hardware drivers, without warning too. Keep an eye on that. Sometimes it happens in the middle of work too. There are broken ways to tell Windows not to do it, they don't work most of the times. I believe AMD came up with their own workaround for this problem in their latest drivers, so hopefully this will no longer an issue. Thanks MS for your ignorance and incompetence
