The client requests new work when the current work reaches 99% completion.
Is it possible there is a configuration option that can be set
to delay requesting new work until after the current WU has been uploaded?

It would make it easier to read the log files to search out any processing problems.

yes and no
you can change the trigger point to request a new work unit when the current work finishes, I don't believe you can set it to request after the current one has uploaded.

advanced control -> config -> expert -> extra client options
name: next-unit-percentage
value: 100

you can enter a value in the range of 90-100, I have mine set to 100
