At the top of this page there is a link to the download page.

You have many choices, though.
1) Run four released CPU clients
2) Run one GPU2 beta client on the 8800GT and three standard CPU clients.
3) Run one SMP beta client
4) Run one SMP beta plus one GPU2 beta. (This does exceed the FAH recommendations of one FahCore per physical core.)

I've listed them from easiest to most difficult. Not everyone is cut out for beta testing and if you're the type who enjoys working through issues and finding a post on this forum where somebody else ran into the same issue, then by all means go for the higher numbers. If you're the type that wants to set it and forget it, then go for the lower numbers.

The beta clients are on a second download page. Look for the red splash near the bottom of the page with the released clients. If you do choose beta, be sure to read the FAQ in detail and check the corresponding forum here for more information.

Welcome to the folding forum.

I opted for bruce's option #4. While this technically exceeds the Project's recommendations, the Project also supports running the SMP client on a dual-core machine. My 2.66 GHz Q9450 runs the SMP client significantly faster on 3 cores (1 is taken by the GPU2 client) than my 3 GHz E6850 on 2 cores.

I would recommend you start with the GPU client and see if you can get it running. When that's running, try the SMP client. If for some reason you can't get the SMP client running alongside the GPU2, then replace the SMP with 3 CPU clients. I still use the v5.04 CPU client running as a Service on my single-CPU machines; that seems to be the best "out of sight, out of mind" solution.

I just want to be able to set it and forget it and let it run for a few hours at a time. should i just run 4 non smp clients and if so how would i go about doing that?

Yes, running 4 CPU clients as Services will do it, and will likely make all deadlines. I recommend the 5.04 console client for all 4.

The short version is to make 4 separate folders/subfolders (\FAH1, \FAH2, \FAH3, \FAH4 or similar) for them, copy the client executable to each subfolder, run it with the -configonly and -local switches, fill in your name and team, tell it to run as a Service, set the Machine ID to 1/2/3/4 as appropriate, reboot.

Try one client first, then see that it runs properly. Use FahMon (available via 3rd Party Software conf) to monitor when desired. Install others once your machine is stable.

Much more detailed info in the Wiki at http://fahwiki.net/index.php/FAH_%26_SM ... le_Clients (sez it's for the SMP client, but works for the CPU client also).

Option 2 would be a good choice depending on your computer. The GPU client for the 8800gt currently need three hours to complete a WU with a 3 day final deadline.
GPU2 + 3 console clients would get max points for your situation.
