Drop in points for dual GPUs lately

About three weeks ago I was getting around 3.6 million points a day from two RTX 2060 cards running 24/7. Since then, the points have been variable but almost always lower than that, dropping to under 3 million fairly often. Is there simply a different mix of WUs now? For a while, the every-3-hours reports on extremeoverclocking.com would usually show two WUs completed every time for near 400k points, occasionally one or three for around 200k each. Now it’s all over the map. I wasn’t running any CPU WUs on the 6-core processor, but now I’m using 4 cores for those.

It doesn’t matter much, just that I’m curious yet too lazy to study this on my own. Power bill has gone down now that I’m rarely running the A/C in this south Florida winter and the computer is supplementing the heating coils at night.

This is the most probable explanation ...

If the points drop-off happened at about the time you started cpu folding it might be worth finishing/pausing that slot .. the duals might need more cpu to service them than they have and/or the cpus might not be boosting as high due to the greater load .. both these might explain the drop-off .. or just the current mix of WUs

You can also check your clock speeds in case they are running at a lower frequency or something like that.

It's not uncommon for there to be some variance in work units over time. If in doubt, double check hardware settings, or use of the CPU for folding as mentioned above.

I saw a drop recently on my slow APU. It turns out that after a power outage my BIOS defaulted to slow memory settings on reboot from the power outage. Things happen.

The Extreme Overclocking forum site is good for a global view of how you are performing over time but it doesn't tell you how your system is running right now.

A few tools worth taking a look at include the Advanced Control panel bundled with FAH, Windows task manager, MSI Afterburner, CPUID HWMonitor. These should give you enough of a start to analyse a range of things like:- what project your system is working on, cooling issues, whether one card is performing better than the other, if you're having stability issues, stuck units, failure of a server to upload a unit or send the results to the stats server.

The work units do vary in points but a sustained drop could be caused by something else.

Thanks for all suggestions. The past few days: roughly 3.5 million, then roughly 2.5, then the next day roughly 3.5 again. I need to check the logs, have a look at the system. Just weird.

The mix of projects is always varying ... it's not surprising ...

My daily points have been fluctuating a lot in recent weeks, with big dips around Christmas and New Years. I guessed that there was a shortage of work units due to people being off for the holidays.

While people are on leave, those who are working are ensuring that the Servers have sufficient supply of WUs to feed the clients. If there are issues, feel free to report it here so we can notify the correct people to investigate this further :)
