Low PPD with 3090

Post by quengilar »

Hi Everyone,

I just updated it from a 1080Ti to a 3090, and I'm not sure if I have something messed up with my settings, but I've been getting pretty low PPD counts (it appears this was also an issue with the 1080Ti, and I didn't realize it). The 3090 is currently running at about 1.7m PPD, but from what I've been reading, it seems like it should be closer to 4m-6m PPD. I'm not sure if this is an availability issue with jobs or something else I can troubleshoot. Included is the first ~100 lines of my log if anyone here is more adept at interpreting those.

Thanks for the help!

You do not appear to have a passkey.

Without a passkey, you do not get Quick Return Bonus points.

https://test.foldingathome.org/support/ ... s/passkey/

Once you enter a passkey and complete 10 Work Units with a 80% or better success rate, you will get the QRB and your points will jump.

You may wish to set CPUs to 12, as 15 is problematical.

Not necessary anymore to do manual tweaks. It is done by FahCore automatically.

Fairly sure a7 core still has issues so while they are still around which I believe they are they avoiding 15 may save on the occasional issue

FahCore_a7 would throw Domain Decomposition error if the assigned Project is too small for 15 CPUs. This can be changed on the Project to prevent this from happening.
FahCore_a8 would not throw an error due to different workaround that's currently in place.

I would set it to 12 to ensure that you have 4 CPUs free to feed the GPU and pick up any OS tasks.

You know, I signed up using a personal email address that isn't common, and I don't think it ever came through. I used a different email address, and now I have a key. Glad this was a simple issue. Just like that, I'm at 4.4m PPD. Thanks for the quick response!

Just to manage expectations as mentioned in previous guidance your client will report the estimated ppd as if the passkey is active as soon as you enter it but until the user/team/passkey grouping successfully completes 10 WUs you won't actually be awarded the qrb so you will actually get much less until then .. the figure you see in the client overestimates for the first ten WUs completed

Hey, I managed to get something like 160 WU done before I even recognized a problem, whats 10 more?

Without using a passkey, I was folding and wondering how in the world people got so many points. Even though I had a very basic APU system, I didn't realize the QRB contributed so many points.

You will be blazing with that thing.

Still stuck at 4.4M PPD?
That's a number I get on my 2080TI.

Seems to average around that, but I just leave it running in the background, this isn't a dedicated folding machine. If I'm not using the PC and it has a consistent folding workload it seems to float up to about 7m PPD.
