CPU or GPU new install. Says disabled

Actually first it defaulted to 128 cpus (which is correct for a 7742 EPYC), I deleted that, and added GPU,after updating the GPUS as below

cd /var/lib/fahclient

sudo wget http://fah-web.stanford.edu/file-releas ... c/GPUs.txt

and it says disabled, then I deleted that, and for grins added the CPU as 1 CPU (its running Rosetta on 127 cpus) and it also says disabled.

Whats up ? I have a lot of folding boxes and a lot of experience, but never seen this one.

I an running linux. I have a 2080TI and running the 455 drivers.

I just found this in the log file.

23:29:21:WARNING:FS00:No CUDA or OpenCL 1.2+ support detected for GPU slot 00: gpu:-1:-1.

Anybody know how to install these drivers in cinnamon mint 19.2 ?

I figured it out. Go here https://askubuntu.com/questions/1077061 ... nto-ubuntu

Then run from "add and install" down to "tune environment"

There may be more there thats neede, but that what I did and I am now running.

Damn nvidia... It used to be so easy to install Nvidia drivers.

Sorry for the non response markfw. I am not familiar enough with Ubuntu Linux to be any help at this time.

I am glad you were able to resolve the issue though.

Hi

I had the same problem after a software update. Had been working fine for ages and then suddenly the GPU was disabled

I did some serious hunting around the forums but in the end the piece of advice that worked was:

1) stop FAHClient running by "service FAHClient stop) or killing the process

2) delete the GPUs.txt files anywhere in the system - mine was in the root directory in Ubuntu 20.04

3) restart the FAHClient "service FAHClient start" This causes a new GPUs.txt file to be downloaded and everything started up again and has been going fine since. I notice though that the GPU description for the folding slot says "gpu:9:0" and this is new. The GPU slot config says the 9 is the value for pci-bus and the 0 is the value for pci-slot - something definitely changed and obviously the new GPUs.txt file fixed it.

Another handful of hair on the floor ... and I have so very little left now, to nobody's surprise I am sure.

Anyway, I hope this is helpful to someone else out there struggling.

Cheers
Pete

Thanks Pete.

What GPU are you running? (Preferably with the binary codes)

What version of FAHClient?

Hi Bruce

I am running a GTX 1080Ti GPU with NVIDIA Driver version 450.80.02 on Ubuntu 20.04 on an AMD Ryzen 7 1700 processor

FAH Client is 7.6.21

The code from the GPUs.txt is: 0x10de:0x1b06:2:8:GP102 [GeForce GTX 1080 Ti] 11380

My system just spat the dummy again (I need to do a complete reinstall!) and this same problem came up again. I found that I needed to delete the GPUs.txt file from /var/lib/fahclient. Upon restarting the service the control program showed it had found the GPU again (after downloading the latest file I assume) and all is now working again. Very strange behaviour though.

Hope this info is helpful. Happy to supply anything else that can help.

Cheers
Pete

There have been several enhancements to how FAHClient manages gpus.txt and it's still not perfect. DO NOT try to edit that file. If you need a refresh, the only way I ever get one is by deleting the file and restarting FAHClient.

It rarely changes except to enable support for a newly released GPU so you shouldn't need to have it updated.

Hi Bruce

Thanks for your reply

The GPUs.txt file is way too complicated to edit - I would never even try. I just delete it and restart the client and let it download a new one again.
Strange though, how that fixes it. But thankful for small mercies.

Cheers
