Best Buy and 3080's

Happened to check their web site about 9:20 AM CDT and they had the 3080's available for sale, although most of them already showed as out of stock.
Was able to get a couple (one at a time) into my cart and even though I went straight to checkout by that time it showed I was too late, they were all gone.
Now all 3080's show as out of stock, although 3090's and 3060's are still showing as pending?
Did any one get lucky?

3090's are next week, don't know about 3060's. 3070's in October some time. Here in the UK, all the major online retailers for tech are down, hammered by customers. The NVidia UK store was out of stock immediately that they were officially on sale.
Numbers for Vray and render tests are very strong.

I tried one retailer who notified me of availability of 3 versions of RTX 3080's, the first one I viewed was already out of stock then their website crashed.
I am not actually in the market at present was just looking at what available and what the first models looked like cooling and connector wise and it seems there were twin and triple fan standard looking models rather than the unusual fan arrangement I had seen in previews. I will probably wait until a hybrid cooled one comes on market maybe as a 'ti' or 'super' model, but interesting.
Am also intrigued as to how they will perform under current work units and am sure we will see some results released soon.

Unless you can get them at MSRP, I wouldn't buy them.
It's pretty common for sales channels to sell them at a 20-25% profit margin, because they know it'll sell!

Newegg, EVGA both crashing for the first 20 minutes of 6am (Pacific Time). An Amazon search for the RTX 3080 only netted 2080 results, which I thought was odd?? Bestbuy was showing sold out after 5 minutes when I looked.... It is what it is! I have time and i am in no hurry.
Just hope some folders were able to snag some so we can see some posts on how well the 3080 does.

Yeah, Amazon has a page dedicated to the 3080. Not sure why it doesn't show up in a search

They sold out before they went live, because they had made the mistake of exposing the Digital River ordering API to the web browser. That allowed scripts to bot-submit orders to the backend without going through NVidia's server. When NVidia actually enabled the ordering button on the website, they had already sold out, but when they went back and canceled some of the fraudulent orders, a few of the real humans who were trying to order on the website actually managed to get an order in.
At the moment, the Digital River API says that they have 363 units of the 3080 Founder's Edition cards in stock, so if you have a script watching the website you might be able to order one of those.
I'll be waiting for CUDA and/or multi-WU support before jumping on a 3000 series GPU for folding. By the time that happens, we'll likely know what computing power we can expect from AMD's new cards as well.

I expect CUDA support shortly.

Hope FAH is prepared for the influx of these new GPUs.
Results will be returned even quicker, in the next few months.
Hope we won't have any server issues, like was when the 2000 series came out.

They're sold out to preorders.
Itll take a week or two for Nvidia to catch up with demand.
They may actually raise the prices on the 3090, for early delivery, if they had a pricing director in their team..
But yeah, the 3090 is what I'm gunning for. Probably released mid october, and I'll buy by the end of October.

I also considered the 3090 but if it is only 10-15% better than the 3080 I will rather get 2x3080's (Folding and gaming) and I know SLI is not supported.
2 x 3080 = ~17 000 CUDA cores, 3090 = ~10 000
In fact I may wait for the 20GB 3080 EVGA FTW3 Ultra

I'm not buying the 3090 for folding though.
But you're right, 2x 3080 is going to be better for folding, especially since there aren't many large atom WUs available yet.

VRAM is useless for FAH, so if you're buying them only for it, don't bother with the 20 GB versions of the 3080 ... It will probably be more expensive and won't help to fold faster ...
